Left ventricular noncompaction (LVNC) is a heterogeneous entity with uncertain prognosis. This study sought to develop and validate a prediction model of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and to identify LVNC cases without events during long-term follow-up.This is a retrospective longitudinal multicenter cohort study of consecutive patients fulfilling LVNC criteria by echocardiography or cardiovascular magnetic resonance. MACE were defined as heart failure (HF), ventricular arrhythmias (VAs), ...

Two great trends are evident in the evolution of life on Earth: towards increasing diversification and towards increasing integration. Diversification has spread living processes across the planet, progressively increasing the range of environments and free energy sources exploited by life. Integration has proceeded through a stepwise process in which living entities at one level are integrated into cooperative groups that become larger-scale entities at the next level, and so on, producing cooperative ...

To analyze the prognostic impact of immunophenotyping in patients with multiple myeloma (MM).We have prospectively analyzed the prognostic impact of antigenic markers, assessed by multiparametric flow cytometry, in a series of 685 newly diagnosed MM patients that were uniformly treated according to the GEM 2000 protocol. Our results show that expression of both CD19 and CD28 as well as the absence of CD117 were associated with a significantly shorter progression free-survival (PFS) and overall survival ( ...

Here we report the intercalation of a MnII–CrIII oxalate-bridged extended network into the interlamellar space offered by a ZnII–AlIII LDH host. This material exhibits ferrimagnetic ordering below 3 K from dominant antiferromagnetic interactions between metallic centres through the oxalate linker. Our result opens the door for the design of a completely new sort of hybrid magnetic multilayers from molecule-based magnets and layered inorganic flexible hosts, where the intrinsic properties of both ...

The outcome of COVID-19 in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients is almost uniformely considered poor. The aim of present study was to retrospectively analyse the outcome and risk factors for mortality in a large series of patients who developed COVID-19 infection after an allogeneic HSCT.This multicenter retrospective study promoted by the European Hematology Association - Infections in Hematology Study Working Group, included 326 adult HSCT patients who had COVID-19 ...

The effect of COD addition into an anammox reactor was assessed during short and long term exposure. The short term exposure was assessed via batch tests and lasted 48 h. Results indicated the presence of a very active denitrifying community able to consume COD using nitrate and nitrite as electron acceptors. However, the presence of COD did not result in an increase of the ammonium concentration at the end of the tests indicating that anammox activity was not suppressed by the addition of COD. ...

Hepatic stellate cells (HSC) play a key role in the development of chronic liver disease (CLD). Liraglutide, well-established in type 2 diabetes, showed anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. We evaluated the effects of liraglutide on HSC phenotype and hepatic microvascular function using diverse pre-clinical models of CLD. Human and rat HSC were in vitro treated with liraglutide, or vehicle, and their phenotype, viability and proliferation were evaluated. In addition, liraglutide or vehicle ...

A dual-bed catalytic system has been developed by which NOx and N2O are successively removed from flue gases, simulating lean-burn engine conditions. NOx is removed in the first stage by selective catalytic reduction with propene over a Pt supported on activated carbon catalyst. The second bed decomposes the N2O formed in the first bed into N2 and O2. Catalysts tested in this second stage comprise ex-Co-Rh,Al-HTlc and ex-Co,Pd-La,Al-HTlc mixed oxides derived from hydrotalcite-like compounds and ...

Aims: To characterize the presence of additional DNA copy number alterations (CNAs) in children and adults with ALL by whole-genome oligonucleotide array (aCGH) analysis, and to identify their associations with clinical features and outcome. Array-CGH was carried out in 265 newly diagnosed ALLs (142 children and 123 adults). The NimbleGen CGH 12x135K array (Roche) was ...
