To investigate the prevalence and prognostic factors of joint surgery in a large cohort of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, whose treatment, clinical and radiographic data have been assessed at predefined points in time since disease onset.Data on surgical interventions were retrospectively obtained from 482 patients with rheumatoid arthritis whose follow-up data for at least 2 years were available, including treatment and response to treatment during the first 2 years. Survival time until the ...

It is widely expected that 193 nm lithography will be the technology of choice for volume production of the 0.10 micrometer device generation. For this purpose the PAS5500/1100 TM Step & Scan system, the second generation ArF tool, was developed. It is based on the PAS5500/900 TM , the body of which has been adapted to fit the new 0.75 NA Starlith TM projection optics. This high NA enables mass manufacturing of devices following the 0.10 micrometer design rule. The system features a 10 W 2 kHz ArF laser ...

Campylobacter jejuni is the main cause of bacterial food-borne diseases in developed countries. Chickens are the most important source of human infection. Vaccination of poultry is an attractive strategy to reduce the number of C. jejuni in the intestinal tract of chickens. We investigated the immunogenicity and protective efficacy of a recombinant C. jejuni flagellin-based subunit vaccine with intrinsic adjuvant activity. Toll-like receptor activation assays demonstrated the purity and TLR5 stimulating ( ...

Mutations in ZFHX1B cause Mowat–Wilson syndrome (MWS) but the precise mechanisms underlying the aberrant functions of mutant ZFHX1B proteins (also named Smad-interacting protein-1, SIP1) in patients are unknown. Using mass spectrometry analysis, we identified subunits of the NuRD corepressor complex in affinity-purified Zfhx1b complexes. We find that Zfhx1b associates with NuRD through its N-terminal domain, which contains a previously postulated NuRD interacting motif. Interestingly, this motif is ...

Objectives: To systematically analyse the literature on reported adverse events of low- to medium-dose glucocorticoids during ⩾1 month for inflammatory diseases. Methods: Data were systematically retrieved and selected from PUBMED, EMBASE and CINAHL databases (6097 hits). Results: A total of 28 studies (2382 patients) met the inclusion criteria. The risk of adverse events over all studies was 150 per 100 patient-years (95% confidence interval (CI) 132 to 169). Psychological and behavioural adverse events (eg, minor ...

Disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) are drugs used in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to control the disease and to limit joint damage and improve long-term outcome. The last decade evidence has accumulated that suggests that low dosages of glucocorticoids are indeed able to control the disease and limit the destruction. This role is especially present in early disease and in combination with other drugs. The evidence is carefully evaluated and discussed. The ultimate conclusion is that indeed ...

Objective Synthesising evidence of the effects of interventions to improve work participation among people with health problems is currently difficult due to heterogeneity in outcome measurements. A core outcome set for work participation is needed. Study design and setting Following the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials methodology, we used a five-step approach to reach international multistakeholder consensus on a core outcome set for work participation. Five subgroups of stakeholders ...

To investigate how work participation outcomes in randomized controlled trials are measured internationally and across disciplines. We identified trials that reported on work participation in Medline, Embase, PsycINFO and Cochrane Central published between 2014 and 2019. Screening, selection, and data extraction were done by two authors independently. We grouped outcomes into four categories ("employment status", "absence from work", "at-work productivity loss," and "employability") and created subcategories ...

To assess parental knowledge regarding lifelong congenital cardiac care (LLCCC).National guidelines recommend that nearly 50% of adult survivors with congenital heart disease (CHD) receive LLCCC; the number of adults who receive such care seems far less. Inadequate parental knowledge of LLCCC might contribute to care interruption. In this multicenter study, we administered a questionnaire to parents of children with moderate and complex CHD to assess knowledge of LLCCC.A total of 500 parents participated; ...

Abstract Purpose Heterogeneity in work participation (WP) outcomes measurements hampers large scale evidence synthesis in systematic reviews of trials. In this survey we explore authors’ reasons for choosing specific WP outcomes and their measurement methods, including employment status, absence from work, at-work productivity loss, and employability. Methods We contacted authors of 260 trials and 69 systematic reviews and asked closed and open-ended questions about previously used WP outcomes and ...

Abstract Background Work participation is important for health and can be considered as engagement in a major area of life which is of significance for most people, but it can also be thought of as fulfilling or discharging a role. Currently, academic research lacks a comprehensive classification of work participation outcomes. The International Classification of Functioning is the foremost model in defining work functioning and its counterpart work disability, but it does not provide a critical ( ...

Introduction: Gain-of-function mutations in TMEM173 encoding STING (Stimulator of Interferon Genes) underlie a novel type I interferonopathy, minimally responsive to conventional immunosuppressive therapies and associated with high childhood morbidity and mortality.A newly emerging treatment strategy in STING-related inflammation aims to control interferon (IFN) signalling post-binding of the IFN receptor, by targeting JAK1/2.We hypothesized that inhibition of IFN production itself might represent ...

Background: Thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA) and dissections are not uncommon causes of sudden death in young adults. Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a rare, recently described, autosomal dominant, connective tissue disease characterized by aggressive arterial aneurysms, resulting from mutations in the transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) receptor genes TGFBR1 and TGFBR2. Mean age at death is 26.1 years, most often due to aortic dissection. We report an unusually late presentation of LDS, diagnosed ...
