Temporal sources of dream threats were examined through the paradigm of the Threat Simulation Theory. Two groups of young adults (18-24 years old), who did not experience severe threatening events in the year preceding their dream and reported a dream either with or without threats, were included. Participants (N = 119) kept a log of daily activities and a dream diary, indicating whether dream components referred to past experiences. The occurrence of oneiric threats correlated with the reporting of ...

Type 2 effector production of IL-13, a demonstrated requirement in models of fibrosis, is routinely ascribed to CD4(+) Th2 cells. We now demonstrate a major role for CD8(+) T cells in a murine model of sterile lung injury. These pulmonary CD8(+) T cells differentiate into IL-13-producing Tc2 cells and play a major role in a bleomycin-induced model of fibrosis. Differentiation of these Tc2 cells in the lung requires IL-21, and bleomycin treated IL-21- and IL-21R-deficient mice develop inflammation ...

Inguinal white adipose tissue (iWAT) is essential for the beneficial effects of exercise training on metabolic health. The underlying mechanisms for these effects are not fully understood, and here, we test the hypothesis that exercise training results in a more favorable iWAT structural phenotype. Using biochemical, imaging, and multi-omics analyses, we find that 11 days of wheel running in male mice causes profound iWAT remodeling including decreased extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition and increased ...

Background The goals of axillary-lymph-node dissection (ALND) are to maximise survival, provide regional control, and stage the patient. However, this technique has substantial side-effects. The purpose of the B-32 trial is to establish whether sentinel-lymph-node (SLN) resection can achieve the same therapeutic goals as conventional ALND but with decreased side-effects. The aim of this paper is to report the technical success and accuracy of SLN resection plus ALND versus SLN resection alone. Methods ...

Mentholated cigarettes capture a quarter of the US market, and are disproportionately smoked by adolescents. Menthol allosterically modulates nicotinic acetylcholine receptor function, but its effects on the brain and nicotine addiction are unclear. To determine if menthol is psychoactive, we assessed locomotor sensitization and brain functional connectivity. Adolescent male Sprague Dawley rats were administered nicotine (0.4 mg/kg) daily with or without menthol (0.05 mg/kg or 5.38 mg/kg) for nine ...

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy can increase the rates of breast-conserving surgery in patients with operable breast cancer and is a reasonable alternative to adjuvant chemotherapy. Several trials have shown that adding bevacizumab (an antiangiogenic monoclonal antibody against vascular endothelial growth factor A) and the antimetabolites capecitabine and gemcitabine to taxanes can improve outcomes in patients with metastatic breast cancer. This trial investigated whether adding capecitabine or gemcitabine ...

LBA1000 Background: The primary aims were to determine whether adjuvant DD AC→PG will be superior to DD AC→P as well as to TAC in DFS and to compare the relative DFS of TAC and DD AC→P. Secondary endpoints include survival and toxicity. Methods: From Nov 3, 2004 to May 3, 2007, 4894 women were randomized; 1630 to TAC (docetaxel [T] 75 mg/m 2 , doxorubicin [A] 50 mg/m 2 , cyclophosphamide [C] 500 mg/m 2 q3 wks x 6), 1634 to DD AC→P (A 60 mg/m 2 and C 600 mg/m 2 q2 wks x 4 followed by P 175 mg/m 2 q2 wks x ...

Breast cancer is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in postmenopausal women worldwide. Reducing the risk of distant disease recurrence is a primary goal of adjuvant endocrine therapy. As we await data from ongoing Phase III comparison trials, an emerging body of evidence demonstrates important differences between third-generation aromatase inhibitors, particularly with respect to potency and prevention of early distant metastases. Furthermore, a growing body of evidence demonstrates anticancer ...

Background: The finding of a decrease in contralateral breast cancer incidence following tamoxifen administration for adjuvant therapy led to the concept that the drug might play a role in breast cancer prevention. To test this hypothesis, the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project initiated the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial (P-1) in 1992. Methods: Women (N = 13 388) at increased risk for breast cancer because they 1) were 60 years of age or older, 2) were 35–59 years of age with a 5-year ...

LBA1005 Background: The addition of capecitabine (X), gemcitabine (G), and bevacizumab (B) to taxanes have each improved PFS in metastatic breast cancer. The primary aims of this trial were to determine if adding X or G to docetaxel (T) → AC will increase breast pathologic complete response (pCR) rates in operable, HER2-negative breast cancer and if adding B to T-based regimens →AC will increase pCR rates. Secondary aims included assessment of clinical complete response (cCR) rates. Methods: Pts received ...

501 Background: The primary aim of this randomized trial of neoadjuvant therapy in operable, HER2-positive breast cancer (BC) was to determine the effect on pathologic complete response (pCR) rates of substituting lapatinib (L) for trastuzumab (T) in combination with weekly paclitaxel (WP) following AC as well as adding L to T with WP following AC. Previously reported results showed pCR breast 52.5% for AC→WP+T, 53.2% for AC→WP+L, and 62% for AC→WP+TL. Planned secondary endpoints included 5-year recurrence- ...

Background We studied the effect on tumour response to neoadjuvant therapy of the substitution of lapatinib for trastuzumab in combination with weekly paclitaxel after doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide treatment, and of the addition of lapatinib and trastuzumab combined after doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide treatment in patients with HER2-positive operable breast cancer to determine whether there would be a benefit of dual HER2 blockade in these patients. Methods For this open-label, randomised ...
