An approach of exploiting and assessing the potential of Sentinel-2 data in the context of precision agriculture by using data from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is presented based on a four-year dataset. An established model for the estimation of the green area index (GAI) of winter wheat from a UAV-based multispectral camera was used to calibrate the Sentinel-2 data. Large independent datasets were used for evaluation purposes. Furthermore, the potential of the satellite-based GAI-predictions ...

People with synaesthesia not only have – by definition – unusual experiences (e.g., numbers triggering colour), they also have a different cognitive profile (e.g., in terms of their memory and perceptual abilities) and a bias towards certain interests and activities (e.g., towards the arts). However, virtually nothing is known about whether synaesthetes have an atypical personality profile. In this study, a standard measure of personality was administered (Big Five Inventory) along with two questionnaire ...

Oral cancer therapy is associated with a loss in health‑related quality of life (HRQOL) and can also lead to post‑traumatic growth (PTG). The current study analyzed the relationship between HRQOL, PTG and influencing clinical factors after treatment. The coherent clinical data of 15 patients were retrospectively analyzed over a 1‑year study period. HRQOL and PTG were studied using the University of Washington Quality of Life Version 4 (UW‑QOL v4) and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) questionnaires. ...

The electronic structure of low temperature, solution-processed indium-zinc oxide thin-film transistors is complex and remains insufficiently understood. As commonly observed, high device performance with mobility >1 cm2 V-1 s-1 is achievable after annealing in air above typically 250 °C but performance decreases rapidly when annealing temperatures ≤200 °C are used. Here, the electronic structure of low temperature, solution-processed oxide thin films as a function of annealing temperature and environment ...

Vessels of female rats constrict less and relax more to adrenergic stimulation than vessels of males. Although we have reported that these sex-specific differences rely on endothelial β-adrenoceptors, the role of sex hormones in β-adrenoceptor expression and related vessel tone regulation is unknown. We investigated the role of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone on β-adrenoceptor expression and adrenergic vessel tone regulation, along with sex-specific differences in human mammary arteries. ...

Gender-specific treatment is gaining growing attention in various fields of medicine. In gastrointestinal cancer, influence of sex on outcome has been discussed, while this has not been the case in neuroendocrine tumors. Overall, the incidence of neuroendocrine neoplasms is rising, especially for appendiceal neuroendocrine neoplasms in women. Also, women seem to have a slight advantage in response to therapy, especially for liver metastases. This single-center analysis aimed to investigate gender- ...

Despite the success of exploiting the properties of amorphous oxide semiconductors for device applications, the charge transport in these materials is still not clearly understood. The observation of a definite Hall voltage suggests that electron transport in the conduction band is free-electron-like. However, the temperature dependence of the Hall and field-effect mobilities cannot be explained using a simple bandlike model. Here, we perform gated Hall effect measurements in field-effect transistors, ...

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a major cause of blindness in the elderly. We report a genome-wide screen of 96 cases and 50 controls for polymorphisms associated with AMD. Among 116,204 single-nucleotide polymorphisms genotyped, an intronic and common variant in the complement factor H gene ( CFH ) is strongly associated with AMD (nominal P value <10 -7 ).
