A new bis-N,N′-(5-methylimidazol-4-ylmethyl) derivative of a 14-membered tetraazamacrocycle, L1, has been synthesized. The protonation constants of this compound and the stability constants of its complexes with divalent first-row transition metal ions and Fe3+ were determined at 298.2 K in aqueous 0.10 mol dm−3 KNO3. Compound L1 exhibits high overall basicity, which is mainly conferred by the imidazolyl groups. The complexes of the divalent first row-transition metal ions of L1 follow the Irving– ...

The use of mass gatherings as spaces to practice health surveillance has been growing in recent years. In Mozambique, the 9th National Festival of Culture in 2016 was selected for this practice. A specific public health surveillance system to facilitate rapid detection of outbreaks and other health-related events was implemented for this event with real time data collection and analysis.A descriptive epidemiological evaluation of all the health consultations that occurred in fixed posts prepared ...

Abstract Diabetes poses a substantial disease burden, prompting preventive interventions. Physical inactivity, a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, can potentially be mitigated by enhancing area-level walkability. Despite this, limited population-based studies have investigated the link between walkability and objective diabetes measures. Our study aims to estimate the association between area-level walkability and individual glycated haemoglobin levels in the Portuguese adult population without ...

Abstract Background Three years after the first confirmed COVID‐19 case in Brazil, the outcomes of Federal government omissions in managing the crisis and anti‐science stance heading into the pandemic have become even more evident. With over 36 million confirmed cases and nearly 700 000 deaths up to January 2023, the country is one of the hardest‐hit places in the world. The lack of mass‐testing programs was a critical broken pillar responsible for the quick and uncontrolled SARS‐CoV‐2 spread throughout ...

Abstract Introduction An effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic has been the decision to subject individuals residing in New York City to quarantine rules in order to reduce the spread of the virus. As might have been expected, restriction of usual daily activities would affect individuals’ sleep-wake patterns. It is also known that exposure to traumatic experiences can also engender sleep disturbances, most notably in their ability to initiate sleep. This study investigated the associations ...

Abstract Introduction Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that is linked to environmental/social factors and medical illnesses. Insomnia is associated with stress, defined as the mental or emotional pressure experienced when an individual is faced with adverse or demanding circumstances that are perceived to or exceed their ability to cope. While stress can lead to insomnia, it is hypothesized that social support could affect the association between stress and insomnia. To understand this mechanism, ...

The purpose of this chapter is to offer a new perspective on how business ethics, and more specifically ethical marketing, can be integrated into ethical education and the teaching of good practices, providing answers for different organizational ethical questions. The authors argue that ethical marketing currently plays a pivotal role in organizations, making it necessary to properly address issues from a moral point of view. Referring to elements related to the marketing area, such as the market ...

Abstract Introduction Adherence to OSA assessment and treatment is low among racial/ethnic minorities, particularly among blacks. Navigating patients along the continuum of care from assessment to treatment adherence requires motivation, social support, and self-efficacy. Previous studies indicate that community health educators can provide motivation, social support, and skills to patients to better navigate the complex OSA care continuum. However, recruiting, training, and implementing sleep health ...

e14082 Background: More than 2/3 of the 20 million new cases of cancer predicted to occur yearly by 2020 will be in developing nations. Access to cancer treatment is a major issue in the developing world and evidence-based programs should be used whenever possible. Stress level has been associated with both sleep disturbance and high blood pressure. The protective effect of psychological resilience against stress has been extensively studied. However, there remains a paucity of data on which sub-populations benefit most from the buffering effects of resilience against sleep disturbance, specifically among at-risk older females. This study examined the relationships between resilience and sleep disturbance in a sample of older women with a history of hypertension. ...

Abstract Aims Women are less likely to receive lipid-lowering therapy (LLT) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We analysed whether this under-prescription currently persists and has an impact on long-term outcomes. Methods and results The FAST-MI programme consists of nationwide registries including all patients admitted for AMI ≤ 48 h from onset over a 1 month period in 2005, 2010, and 2015, with long-term follow-up. This analysis focused on high-intensity LLT (atorvastatin ≥ 40 mg or equivalent, ...
