Metal and alloy monolayer films on an unlike substrate are a more or less ubiquitous phenomenon as a consequence of segregation effects in metallic multicomponent materials. The properties of these films, however, determine the whole surface physics and surface chemistry of these materials. In the present wotk, as an example, the properties of evaporated monolayer Cu, Au and CuAu monolayer films are examined with respect to their geometrical structure and growth mode by means of LEED and PAX, with ...

We report on the martensitic fcc-bcc phase transformation for Fe films grown at room temperature on Cu(100) in a thickness range from 10 to 20 monolayers. bcc(110) grains are highly elongated along 〈011${\mathrm{〉}}_{\mathrm{fcc}}$\ensuremath{\parallel}[11\ifmmode\bar\else\textasciimacron\fi{}1${]}_{\mathrm{bcc}}$ and exhibit characteristic island growth with steps along [001${]}_{\mathrm{bcc}}$. The martensitic (i.e., sudden, collective, nondiffusive) transformation in the bulk of the film is demonstrated ...

The growth of Cu on an O-precovered Ru(0001) surface was studied at various substrate temperatures by Auger electron spectroscopy, thermal desorption spectroscopy and sputter profiling. In contrast to the Volmer-Weber growth mode of Au films on O-precovered Ru(0001) the initial growth of Cu films is layer-by-layer at moderate temperatures (300 K–450 K). During the deposition of Cu, O is displaced from the Ru surface and transported to the top of the surface of the growing film. This can be observed ...

We study the properties of the quasi-2D system of Ag-Cu monolayers on Ru(0001) by means of thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). In addition, with a lattice gas model for alloy films on triangular substrate structures, we simulate TD spectra using Monte Carlo methods. Experimental and simulated spectra are presented and discussed with emphasis on the miscibility properties ofAg and Cu on Ru(0001). We conclude that on this surface the Ag-Cu interactions are attractive and, according to the interaction ...

Scrub typhus, a zoonotic rickettsial infection, is an important reason for intensive care unit (ICU) admission in the Indian subcontinent. We describe the clinical profile, organ dysfunction, and predictors of mortality of severe scrub typhus infection.Retrospective study of patients admitted with scrub typhus infection to a tertiary care university affiliated teaching hospital in India during a 21-month period. The cohort (n = 116) aged 40.0 ± 15.2 years (mean ± SD), presented 8.5 ± 4.4 days after symptom ...

Thin films consisting of alloys of immiscible metals display a unique form of compositional ordering not observed in the bulk. Utilizing scanning tunneling microscopy and low energy electron diffraction, we have examined thin films of ${\mathrm{Co}}_{\ensuremath{\eta}}{\mathrm{Ag}}_{1\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\eta}}$ and ${\mathrm{Fe}}_{\ensuremath{\eta}}{\mathrm{Ag}}_{1\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\eta}}$ grown on Mo(110) surfaces. Both of these systems are observed to form a compositionally ordered alloy ...

The secretive behavior and life history of snakes makes studying their biology, distribution, and the epidemiology of venomous snakebite challenging. One of the most useful, most versatile, and easiest to collect types of biological data are photographs, particularly those that are connected with geographic location and date-time metadata. Photos verify occurrence records, provide data on phenotypes and ecology, and are often used to illustrate new species descriptions, field guides and identification ...

3′ untranslated region (3′UTR) variants are strongly associated with human traits and diseases, yet few have been causally identified. We developed the massively parallel reporter assay for 3′UTRs (MPRAu) to sensitively assay 12,173 3′UTR variants. We applied MPRAu to six human cell lines, focusing on genetic variants associated with genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and human evolutionary adaptation. MPRAu expands our understanding of 3′UTR function, suggesting that simple sequences predominately ...

In this paper, different types of attacks and their malicious act behind the scenes are presented. The solutions to defend the victim against attacks are given. In today’s scenario when hackers typing away incessantly on keyboards, juggling multiple computers to take down a group of individuals, the user needs to focus on identification and solution from such misbehavior acts. Therefore, the paper includes the detection through acquiring knowledge about packets in networks, functionality of malicious ...

We have developed an emission–transmission CT (ETCT) system capable of both single‐photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging and x‐ray transmission CT imaging using a common photon counting detector. In principle, SPECT and x‐ray CT projection data can be acquired simultaneously with the ETCT system; however, doing so results in contamination of the SPECT projection data due to pulse pile‐up caused by the relatively high x‐ray fluence rate. In this study, we characterize the effects of pulse ...

Abstract The adsorption of Cu on an oxygen-precovered Ru(0001) surface and the interaction within the O-Cu coadsorption layer have been studied at substrate temperatures of 640 and 400 K using dynamical work function change measurements with a Kelvin-probe, LEED observations as well as Cu thermal desorption spectra. The results are consistently explained in terms of a “compression model” according to which adsorbing Cu compresses any oxygen surface structure which is less dense than the p(2 × 1) phase, ...

METHODS All cirrhotic patients with SBP diagnosed between January 2014 and December 2017 were included.Nosocomial SBP (N-SBP) was defined as SBP diagnosed more than 48 hours after hospitalisation.Clinical outcomes were analysed as categorical outcomes using univariate and multivariate analysis. RESULTSThere were 33 patients with 39 episodes of SBP.Their mean age was 64.5 years and 69.7% were male. The commonest aetiology of cirrhosis was hepatitis B (27.3%).The Median Model for End-stage Liver Disease ( ...

Heart disease, such as coronary heart disease (CHD), is the leading cause of death among aging women. However, over the past years, the mortality rate has declined, resulting in an increased number of CHD survivors. In this context, research has uncovered relationships between cardiovascular disease (CVD) and the development of neurodegenerative diseases, suggesting that CHD can act as a precursor. Despite heart disease affecting both sexes, CVD research has significantly neglected women. Therefore, ...
