Keith Moffatt,

The effect of turbulence on an applied magnetic field is considered in the case when the magnetic Reynolds number Rm is large compared with unity but small compared with the ordinary Reynolds number R of the turbulence. When the applied field is sufficiently weak, it is argued that its effect on the velocity field is negligible. The equation for the field is then linear and its spectrum may be obtained throughout the equlibrium range of wave-numbers. It appears that the spectrum increases as times ...

ALAN D. B. MALCOLM, John R. Moffatt, Keith R. Fox, Michael J. Waring,

The inhibition of cleavage by HpaI at two well-defined restriction sites in linearised ØX174-RF DNA by quinoxaline antibiotics has been investigated. Echinomycin, which displays a certain preference for binding to GC basepairs, inhibits cleavage at one site much more than the other, whereas triostin A, which displays less pronounced sequence-selectivity, inhibits both sites about equally. Other congeners inhibit reaction at the two sites with varying effectiveness. The results demonstrate the usefulness ...

Epidemiologic evidence suggests that a diet rich in (poly)phenols has beneficial effects on many chronic diseases. Brown seaweed is a rich source of (poly)phenols. The aim of this study was to investigate the bioavailability and effect of a brown seaweed (Ascophyllum nodosum) (poly)phenol extract on DNA damage, oxidative stress, and inflammation in vivo. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial was conducted in 80 participants aged 30–65 y with a body mass index (in kg/m2) ≥25. The ...

In Brief Objective: The aim of this analysis was to report a multidisciplinary series comparing choledochoceles to Todani Types I, II, IV, and V choledochal cysts. Summary Background Data: Choledochoceles have been classified as Todani Type III choledochal cysts. However, most surgical series of choledochal cysts have reported few choledochoceles because they are managed primarily by endoscopists. Methods: Surgical, endoscopic, and radiologic records were reviewed at the Riley Children's Hospital ...

The covalent attachment of SUMO (small ubiquitin-like protein modifier) to target proteins results in modifications in their activity, binding interactions, localization or half-life. The reversal of this modification is catalysed by SENPs (SUMO-specific processing proteases). Mammals contain four SUMO paralogues and six SENP enzymes. In the present paper, we describe a systematic analysis of human SENPs, integrating estimates of relative selectivity for SUMO1 and SUMO2, and kinetic measurements of ...

Abstract DNA microarray profiling of CD4 + and CD8 + cells from non‐treated relapsing and remitting multiple sclerosis (MS) patients determined that the cytoplasmic binding partner of fragile X protein (CYFIP2, also called PIR121) was increased significantly compared to healthy controls. Western analysis confirmed that CYFIP2 protein was increased approximately fourfold in CD4 + cells from MS compared to inflammatory bowel disorder (IBD) patients or healthy controls. Because CYFIP2 acts as part of a tetrameric ...
