Breast cancer is primarily a hormone-dependent tumor that can be regulated by the status of steroid hormones, including estrogen and progesterone. Forkhead box P1 (FOXP1) is a member of the forkhead box transcription factor family and has been reported to be associated with various types of tumors. In the present study, we investigated the expression of FOXP1 in 133 human invasive breast cancers, obtained by core biopsy, by immunohistochemical analysis. Nuclear immunoreactivity of FOXP1 was detected ...

Breast cancer is primarily a hormone-dependent tumor that can be regulated by the status of the steroid hormones estrogen and progesterone. Forkhead box A1 (FOXA1) is a member of the forkhead box transcription factor family and functions as a pioneer factor of the estrogen receptor (ER) in breast cancer. In the present study, we demonstrate that FOXA1 mRNA was upregulated by estrogen and that estrogen receptor-α (ERα) recruitment to ER-binding sites in the vicinity of the FOXA1 gene was increased by ...

Both enantiomers of keramaphidin B (1) were separated by using chiral HPLC, of which one may be a plausible biogenetic precursor of ircinals A (4) and B (5) and manzamines A (2) and B (3), while the other may be associated with antipodes of manzamine alkaloids such as ircinols A (6) and B (7). Isolation and structure elucidation of a new manzamine congener, manzamine L (8), and absolute configurations at C-1 of 8 and manzamines D (10) and H (9) deduced from the Cotton effects are also described.

Abstract Introduction Breast cancer is primarily a hormone-dependent tumor that is regulated by the status of the estrogen and progesterone receptors. We previously identified EBAG9 as an estrogen-responsive gene in MCF-7 human breast carcinoma cells. Upregulation of EBAG9 expression has been observed in several malignant tumors such as advanced breast cancers, indicating that EBAG9 might contribute to tumor progression. Patients and Methods In the present study, we generated a monoclonal antibody against ...

Recent retrospective studies have reported discordance rate of hormone receptor (HR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) statuses between primary and recurrent tumors and prognostic values of discordance. However, the results of these reports may possibly include analytical error. We analyzed 153 patients from whom pathological specimens of tumor tissues were available from both primary and recurrent sites. For all specimens, immunohistochemistry was performed for these statuses with ...

Intraductal papillary lesions of the breast constitute a heterogeneous entity, including benign intraductal papilloma ( IDP ) with or without atypia and malignant papillary carcinoma. Differentiating between these diagnoses can be challenging. We re‐evaluated core biopsy specimens that were diagnosed as IDP and the corresponding surgical excision specimens, and assessed the potential risk for the diagnosis to be modified to malignancy based on excision. By sorting the pathology database of the National ...

SHP-2, a SRC homology 2 domain-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase, mediates activation of Ras and mitogen-activated protein kinase by various mitogens and cell adhesion. Inhibition of endogenous SHP-2 by overexpression of a catalytically inactive (dominant negative) mutant in Chinese hamster ovary cells or Rat-1 fibroblasts has now been shown to induce a marked change in cell morphology (from elongated to less polarized) that is accompanied by substantial increases in the numbers of actin stress ...

The purpose of this study is to introduce a novel framework that aids in the installation of rockfall protection structures for the risk reduction of rockfall-related damage. In this study, we propose a computational method that performs risk analysis for a road and plans an optimal arrangement of rockfall protection structures. First, a rockfall trajectory simulation is performed using a three-dimensional numerical analysis method to obtain sufficient data for risk analysis. Then, the risk to motorized ...

SAP-1 (stomach cancer-associated protein-tyrosine phosphatase-1) is a transmembrane-type protein-tyrosine phosphatase that is abundant in the brain and certain cancer cell lines. With the use of a "substrate-trapping" approach, p130cas, a major focal adhesion-associated phosphotyrosyl protein, has now been identified as a likely physiological substrate of SAP-1. Expression of recombinant SAP-1 induced the dephosphorylation of p130cas as well as that of two other components of the integrin-signaling ...

Based on the concept of the adenoma‐carcinoma sequence, most colorectal cancers are considered to arise from conventional adenomas. However, recent studies suggested that a subset of colorectal cancers develop through the serrated neoplastic pathway. It has also been documented that serrated polyps can rapidly transform into invasive cancers even when they are small in size. We now describe a case of a sessile serrated adenoma/polyp which had been followed up for 4 years but eventually showed rapid ...

The present study investigates bubble nucleation in liquid oxygen with dissolved impurities (nitrogen or helium molecules) using molecular dynamics simulations. When the mole fraction of impurities is 0.05, there is a fundamental difference in the bubble nucleation mechanism between the two dissolved impurities cases; vaporization in the homogeneous bulk makes a bubble in the case of a nitrogen-dissolved liquid while phase separation of impurities and liquid molecules makes a nucleus in the case ...

Abstract The Escherichia coli lac Z gene encoding β‐galactosidase is a widely used reporter, but few synthetic substrates are available for detecting its activity with single‐cell resolution in living samples. Our recently reported fluorogenic substrate SPiDER‐βGal is suitable for this purpose, but its hydrolysis product shows green fluorescence emission, and a red‐shifted analogue is therefore required for use in combination with green fluorescent protein (GFP) markers. Herein, we describe the development ...

We investigated whether some mucinous carcinomas ( MUCs ) are associated with lobular neoplasia ( LN ) components, and if so, whether this subset has any distinct biological properties. MUC specimens from 41 patients were stratified into pure and mixed types. The LN components adjacent to MUC lesions were examined histopathologically. We also tested immunohistochemically for E ‐cadherin, β‐catenin, and the neuroendocrine markers chromogranin A and synaptophysin; and compared results between MUCs with and ...
