Body armour technologists over the years are seeking to develop protective systems whichare both effective and lightweight. However these hard armour materials are very expensive andhave certain weight constraints. From this point of view, natural fibres and fillers have attractedthe attention of researchers due to their low density with high specific strengths, abundance, availability, renewability and being environmental-friendly. This paper reports the potential useof coconut shell powder-epoxy ...

Climate change is having a profound impact on most coastal regions around the world. Sea Level Rise (SLR) has exposed the coastal regions to various threats, such as inundation and erosion, which consequently influence the coastal environments. The main objective of this study is to assess the coastal vulnerability index (CVI) of the Pahang coast. This CVI comprises six variables, i.e. coastal geomorphology, coastal slope, rate of erosion and accretion, mean significant wave height, mean tidal range ...

Coastal areas are fragile and changeable due to natural and anthropogenic factors. The resulting changes could have a significant impact on the coastal community. Thus, monitoring shoreline changes for environmental protection in the Selangor coastal area is an important task to address these issues. The main objective of this study is to analyse the pattern of shoreline changes and predict the shoreline position along the Selangor coast. The geospatial approach can provide information on the history ...

Problem statement: A sediment analysis study was conducted at the Chini River on 16 and 31 August 2008. This study was conducted to review the formation of suspended sediment load in the Lake Chini catchment area, which flows into the Pahang River via the Chini River. Approach: Three sampling stations were chosen, the first one at upstream Chini River (S1), mid-stream Chini River (S2) and downstream Chini River (S3). Three parameters were quantified for this study, namely: distribution of sediment ...

Air pollution is becoming a major environmental issue in Malaysia. This study focused on the identification of potential sources of variations in air quality around the study area based on the data obtained from the Malaysian Department of Environment (DOE). Eight air quality parameters in ten monitoring stations for seven years (2006 – 2012) were gathered. The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method from chemometric technique was applied to identify the source identification of pollution around the ...

The processes of lateral and riverbank erosion are among the elements of river morphology dynamic resulting from natural processes and human activities. This process has been studied in detail throughout the research for four months starting from 7 October 2009 to 26 January 2010. In this research, technique of erosion pins were applied at five plots selected along the Chini River in Pahang, Malaysia in order to evaluate the rate of for lateral and river bank erosion. The results in the lateral ...

Rivers is one of the complex natural systems. Classification of the river plan change is very important to know the river problems in early stage, where the classification database can help to understand the behavior of the river in each part. This article discusses about the classification of river plan change at the mainstream of Pahang River, Malaysia. Based on Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) database, analysis of Types Of Lateral Activity (TYLAT) method and Modes of ...

The spatial water quality data (281x22) obtained from 12 sampling stations located along the Terengganu River and its main tributaries were evaluated with environmetric methods. Principal component analysis was used to investigate the origin of each variable due to land use and human activities based on the three clustered regions obtained from the hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis. Six principal components (PCs) were obtained, where six varimax factor (VF) of values more than 0.70 that considered ...

Living organisms require trace amounts of heavy metals, including cobalt, copper, manganese and zinc to survive. However, the excessive levels of the metal can be detrimental to the organism. Other heavy metals such as mercury, lead and cadmium have no vital on organisms, and their accumulation in long time period in the bodies can cause serious illness or death. The consumption of fish is recommended because fish is a basic and good nutritious food that has omega-3 fatty acids due to its cardio- ...

We analyzed the variability of sea surface height anomaly (SSHA), and its relationship with Bigeye tuna catch in the eastern Indian Ocean (EIO) off of Java Island (Indonesia). Both time series of SSHA and Bigeye tuna HR show dominant signals corresponding to the annual and inter-annual variability. During the southeast monsoon the wind blows along southern coast of Java and produces coastal upwelling. This causes sea level to drop due to an offshore Ekman transport, and thermocline becomes shallower. ...

The amount of suspended sediment yield and the size of sediment grains an indicator of hydrological cycle, especially in the river. The sediment transportation process is one of the measurements of water resources management. Equilibrium of the river depends on the flow rate of water and by several factors such as frequency of rainfall, climate changes and land use activities that changes then effected to the river flow. Sedimentation problems occur in reservoirs, rivers, lakes, flood plains and offshore. ...
