Purpose In the first part of this study, we analyzed a subset of patients to determine what factors may have been present in those with poor outcomes after SLAP repair. In part 2, we evaluated clinical outcomes of these patients after further treatment. Methods We completed a retrospective medical record review of consecutive patients presenting between 2000 and 2007 with pain, stiffness, and/or mechanical symptoms after a SLAP repair. To evaluate for similarities among this cohort, data collection ...

Arthroscopic partial meniscectomy is one of the most common orthopedic surgical procedures performed. Numerous clinical and biomechanical studies have shown the long-term consequences of the meniscus-deficient knee, which includes increased loading of the cartilage. This leads to chondromalacia, and ultimately pain and dysfunction. Few treatment options are available for the young patient with pain in the tibiofemoral compartment secondary to meniscus deficiency. Meniscal allograft transplantation ...

To retrospectively report on a series of patients who had interscalene block regional anesthesia performed for outpatient open and arthroscopic shoulder surgical procedures in a community-based ambulatory surgery center setting. We reviewed the cases of 1,945 patients who had interscalene block regional anesthesia performed during an 8-year period. The complication rate was 0.63%, with all complications occurring in the immediate postoperative period, none of which were permanent. With an expert, experienced ...

This paper reports on work completed to date comparing a range of approaches to using simulation in industry settings. We document, share and compare across psychological and physical ‘safety’ dimensions in each of our domains, and describe how these are managed in different contexts. The concept of simulation as creating, and then existing, within a ‘safe container,’ a term is used as a metaphor for the context of simulation in action. In this paper we first reprise work undertaken during 2015 to ...

Success rates of SLAP repair have been reported to be between 71% and 100%. However, a subset of patients have presented to our institution with residual pain and stiffness after SLAP repair. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that led to SLAP repair failure in this subset of patients. We believe that in patients with SLAP lesions who are greater than 40 years of age and are not overhead athletes, the need for SLAP repair needs to carefully considered, as repair can lead to postoperative ...

This study conducts a literary analysis of the traditions and comments of al-Tabari with regards to Muhammad’s Night Journey and Ascension is undertaken within the context of al-Tabari’s exegesis of Qur’ān, 17:1. The linguistic particularities of the verse reveal notions of divine agency in the Qur’ān of which the Night Journey is one instance; manifesting the hand of God in the life of Muhammad. The hadith traditions therein as presented by al-Tabari are examined both linguistically and thematically. ...

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical outcome of patients with failed SLAP repairs after subsequent treatment. Thirty-seven shoulders were included in a retrospective cohort review. Each was treated with conservative therapy and/or revision surgery. In conclusion, we found that precise indications for SLAP repair remain unclear. In the older age group, the presence of a SLAP lesion may represent normal aging, and not pathology. We found that patients often continued to have a poor ...
