Abstract Calcium hydroxides were prepared using novel hydration method and were compared with those obtained by conventional water assisted hydration method and alcohol–water assisted hydration method. In conventional water assisted hydration method and alcohol–water assisted hydration method, raw calcium oxides were hydrated with pure water and alcohol–water solution, respectively, whereas DEG-coated calcium oxides were hydrated with pure water in novel hydration method. Organic coating at the ...

The effects of substrate hardness on the growth of Al2O3 films using an aerosol deposition (AD) process were investigated. Substrates with different hardness, such as glass, Cu, Al2O3, and sapphire were used to examine the effects of the deposition rate, microstructure, and mechanical properties of Al2O3 films. As the substrate hardness increased, the deposition rate and the hardness of the films rapidly decreased, but the surface roughness was increased. The adhesive properties of Al2O3 films deposited ...

We present a simple but effective approach to fabricate high-quality crystalline rubrene thin-film active layers for organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) based on an abrupt heating process. Through this method, continuous, highly ordered, and highly oriented crystalline rubrene thin films comprising large single-crystalline grains (average size: ∼80 μm) can be remarkably rapidly produced in just 1 min without any dielectric surface modification process. OTFTs with carrier mobility as high as 1.21 ...

Copper-doped lanthanum strontium manganite (LSM) system, La0.8Sr0.2Mn1−xCuxO3−δ (0 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.3), was synthesized using the EDTA-combined citrate process and their characteristics were investigated for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) cathode applications. In all compositions, a single perovskite phase was obtained after calcination at 750 °C for 10 h. The maximum electrical conductivity at elevated temperatures was obtained at a composition of x = 0.2 (190 S cm−1 at 750 °C), whereas the sample with x = 0.3 showed the ...

Room-temperature fabrication of TiO2/Cu composite films for embedded passive components were attempted via aerosol deposition process. XRD analysis and observation of internal microstructures revealed that TiO2/Cu composite films using 500 nm-sized TiO2 had further tight bonding between particles compared to 25 nm-sized TiO2, due to effect of initial TiO2 particle size on densification of internal microstructures. Then, to optimize their adhesive strength and temperature coefficient of resistance ( ...

The influence of La2O3 and Tm2O3 co-doping on the dielectric properties and the temperature stability of BaTiO3 was investigated. BaTiO3 ceramics were prepared with the compositional formula of (Ba1−xLax)(Ti1-x/4−yTmy)O3. La2O3 and Tm2O3 co-doping in BaTiO3 mainly had effects on an increase in the dielectric constant and the temperature stability, respectively. The increase of La2O3 concentration and the decrease of Tm2O3 concentration in BaTiO3 resulted in a decrease of lattice parameter and tetragonality ...

A composite model for the risk assessment is developed for the shallow-land burial of low-level radioactive waste. The composite model is composed of a source term, repository failure model, geosphere model, biosphere model, and finally, a dose-and-health-effects model. Uncertainty and sensitivity analyses are also carried out. In addition to the time-dependent annual release rate and dose rate for each nuclide, the ultimate risk in terms of cancer death rate is estimated. The results show that ...

Through a simple wet chemical process from a mixture of peroxo titanic acid (PTA) solution, thiourea and AgAc, a composite of Ag(2)S NPs and TiO(2) NPs with sizes of less than 7 nm was formed. When the NP composite was further treated with NaOH solution followed by annealing at ambient conditions, a new nanocomposite material comprising Ag(2)S NPs on TiO(2) ...

It has been suggested that Alzheimer's disease (AD) is mediated by pathological angiogenesis. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor β (TGF-β), and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF -α) may play important roles in inflammation and angiogenesis through effects on inflammatory cell infiltration or neovascularization in AD pathogenesis. A few studies on the roles of VEGF in AD have been reported recently. But, the results were inconsistent. Angiogenin, which is suspected to have ...

The turbulence energy interaction between gas and solids was described by different k12 transport equations, while the particle dissipation by the large-scale gas turbulent motion was taken into account through a drift velocity. ...

We were successful in growing a dense Cu film on Al2O3 substrates at room temperature using an aerosol deposition (AD) method. The characteristics of Cu films were investigated through electrical resistivity and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The resistivity of Cu films was low (9.2–12.5 μΩ cm), but it was five to seven times higher than that of bulk copper. The deterioration of the resistivity indicates that a Cu2O phase with CuO occurs due to a particle-to-particle collision. Moreover, the ...
