Through the annual cycle of plant growth and dormancy, the winter season leads to profound metabolic changes allowing plants to undergo cold acclimation. In boreal environments, winter conditions are changing rapidly and are likely to cause damage to commercial wild lowbush blueberry. In this study, we addressed the level of frost hardiness and determined the role of environmental factors and nonstructural carbohydrates (NSCs) on frost hardiness. From autumn to spring, stem sections of Vaccinium ...

DE-ETIOLATED 1 (DET1) and CONSTITUTIVE PHOTOMORPHOGENESIS 1 (COP1) are two essential repressors of Arabidopsis photomorphogenesis. These proteins can associate with CULLIN4 to form independent CRL4-based E3 ubiquitin ligases that mediate the degradation of several photomorphogenic transcription factors, including ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL 5 (HY5), thereby controlling multiple gene-regulatory networks. Despite extensive biochemical and genetic analyses of their multi-subunit complexes, the functional links ...

Cryptophanes, cage molecules for which xenon exhibits a high affinity, are good candidates for xenon biosensing. Cryptophane-1.1.1 (1) exhibits the highest binding constant for xenon encapsulation in organic solution determined to date. This property suggests that the cryptophane-1.1.1 core (1) is optimal for sensing applications. A high-yielding scalable synthesis of compound 1 is reported as well as an easy way to functionalize it.

Background and Aims Per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widespread and persistent pollutants that have been shown to have hepatotoxic effects in animal models. However, human evidence is scarce. We evaluated how prenatal exposure to PFAS associates with established serum biomarkers of liver injury and alterations in serum metabolome in children. Approach and Results We used data from 1,105 mothers and their children (median age, 8.2 years; interquartile range, 6.6‐9.1) from the European ...

A pivotal aim of psychiatric and neurological research is to promote the translation of the findings into clinical practice to improve diagnostic and prognostic assessment of individual patients. Structural neuroimaging holds much promise, with neuroanatomical measures accounting for up to 40% of the variance in clinical outcome. Building on these findings, a number of imaging-based clinical tools have been developed to make diagnostic and prognostic inferences about individual patients from their ...

Context. The Gaia third Data Release (DR3) presents the first catalogue of full-sky variable Young Stellar Object (YSO) candidates observed by the Gaia space telescope during the initial 34 months of science operations. Aims. Numerous types of variable stars were classified using photometric data collected by Gaia. One of the new classes presented in the Gaia DR3 is the class of YSOs showing brightness variability. We analysed 79 375 sources classified as YSO candidates to validate their young nature ...

Magnetophoresis-based microfluidic devices offer simple and reliable manipulation of micro-scale objects and provide a large panel of applications, from selective trapping to high-throughput sorting. However, the fabrication and integration of micro-scale magnets in microsystems involve complex and expensive processes. Here we report on an inexpensive and easy-to-handle fabrication process of micrometer-scale permanent magnets, based on the self-organization of NdFeB particles in a polymer matrix ( ...

The rise of machine learning has unlocked new ways of analysing structural neuroimaging data, including brain age prediction. In this state-of-the-art review, we provide an introduction to the methods and potential clinical applications of brain age prediction. Studies on brain age typically involve the creation of a regression machine learning model of age-related neuroanatomical changes in healthy people. This model is then applied to new subjects to predict their brain age. The difference between ...

A growing body of work has addressed human adaptations to diverse environments using genomic data, but few studies have connected putatively selected alleles to phenotypes, much less among underrepresented populations such as Amerindians. Studies of natural selection and genotype-phenotype relationships in underrepresented populations hold potential to uncover previously undescribed loci underlying evolutionarily and biomedically relevant traits. Here, we worked with the Tsimane and the Moseten, ...

African ancestry was estimated through the use of previously described ancestry-informative markers. Risk of presence of neuritic ...
