Objective: To review the empirical literature on family antecedents and consequences of work-family conflict. Background: Over the last decades, family living and working life have changed profoundly, affecting families' needs and expectations towards reconciliation, as well as perceptions of work-family conflict. Previous reviews of the relevant literature in this flourishing field of research have predominantly focused on the work side of sources and consequences of these conflicts. However, a ...

Abstract Transcriptome-wide association studies (TWAS) are popular approaches to test for association between imputed gene expression levels and traits of interest. Here, we propose an integrative method PUMICE (Prediction Using Models Informed by Chromatin conformations and Epigenomics) to integrate 3D genomic and epigenomic data with expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) to more accurately predict gene expressions. PUMICE helps define and prioritize regions that harbor cis-regulatory variants, ...

Electrochemical reduction of CO2 to higher-order hydrocarbon products offers a significant contribution to the challenge of a circular economy. In the pursuit of better copper metal catalyst, it was early on realized that increasing productivity of copper catalysts systems is reliant on high surface area per volume. Tubular gas diffusion electrodes offer such properties. In this work, we present a methodology to fabricate tubular hollow fibre copper electrodes with drastically increased intrinsic ...

IntroductionIn this study, we investigated the effects of the magnitudes of applied stress and growth status on the speed of tooth movement.MethodsEighty-two maxillary canines in 41 subjects were retracted for 84 days by estimated stresses of 4, 13, 26, 52, or 78 kPa applied continuously via segmental mechanics. Dental impressions made at intervals of 1 to 14 days resulted in 9 or 10 dental casts per subject. Three-dimensional tooth movements were quantified using these casts, custom reference templates, ...

ABSTRACT Rapid laboratory methods provide optimal support for active surveillance efforts to screen for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Most laboratories struggle to determine the optimal use of resources, considering options to balance cost, speed, and diagnostic accuracy. To assess the performance of common methods, the first comparison of MRSA Select agar (MS) and CHROMagar MRSA (CA), with and without broth enrichment followed by a 24-h subculture to MS, was performed. Abstract Objectives: To determine whether survivors of surgery for coarctation of the aorta (CoA) have an excessive reliance on anaerobic metabolism during exercise. Background: Patients with peripheral vascular disease cannot increase blood flow to their muscles normally during exercise. Consequently they acquire an early, excessive reliance on anaerobic metabolism and have depression of the ventilatory anaerobic threshold (VAT) and of the slope of the oxygen consumption–work rate relationship (ΔV o 2 /ΔWR). ...

This paper describes the development of an evaluative outcome measure for patients with upper extremity musculoskeletal conditions. The goal is to produce a brief, self-administered measure of symptoms and functional status, with a focus on physical function, to be used by clinicians in daily practice and as a research tool. This is a joint initiative of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Council of Musculoskeletal Specialty Societies (COMSS), and the Institute for Work and Health ( ...

Image-based computational models of the heart represent a powerful tool to shed new light on the mechanisms underlying physiological and pathological conditions in cardiac function and to improve diagnosis and therapy planning. However, in order to enable the clinical translation of such models, it is crucial to develop personalized models that are able to reproduce the physiological reality of a given patient. There have been numerous contributions in experimental and computational biomechanics ...

Abstract Aging is a key risk factor in Alzheimer’s dementia (AD) development and progression. The primary dementia-protective benefits of angiotensin II subtype 1 receptor (AT1R) blockers are believed to arise from systemic effects on blood pressure. However, a brain-specific renin-angiotensin system (b-RAS) exists, which can be altered by AT1R blockers. Brain RAS acts mainly through 3 angiotensin receptors: AT1R, AT2R, and AT4R. Changes in these brain angiotensin receptors may accelerate the progression ...
