The objective of this study was to assess the clinical and financial outcomes of intraoperative cell salvage (ICS) during abdominal aortic surgery. In this study, 90 patients were operated on with the use of ICS (group 1, prospective) and 90 patients without ICS (group 2, historical control). According to the type of operation, the patients were subdivided into three consecutive 30-patient subgroups (1, aortoiliac occlusive disease [AOD]; 2, elective abdominal aortic aneurysm [AAA]; or 3, ruptured abdominal ...

The combination of absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) and absolute monocyte count (AMC) at diagnosis has prognostic relevance in patients with diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL).The present study was designed to investigate the prognostic significance of ALC and AMC and to determine whether ALC/AMC ratio or ALC/AMC prognostic score is better predictor of outcome in DLBCL.We retrospectively analyzed the prognostic significance of ALC and AMC, ALC/AMC ratio and ALC/AMC prognostic score at diagnosis in ...

This retrospective study covers the period from 1991 to 2002, during which 3,623 patients were operated on because of aneurysmal or occlusive disease of aortoiliac and femoropopliteal segments. Among them, 87 patients (2.4%) developed a false anastomotic aneurysm in the 12-year follow-up period and were treated operatively. Most frequently, in 53 patients (6.9%), a false anastomotic aneurysm developed after aortobifemoral bypass performed owing to aortoiliac occlusive disease. The cause of false anastomotic ...

Body height is among the most important attributes of basketball players. Whether it differs among the basketball players who compete at the world basketball championship (FIBA-WC) is unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the differences between the basketball players from the teams ranked 1-16 and those ranked below 16th place. The body heights of all players from the last three FIBA-WCs were collected and allocated according to the ranking at the FIBA-WC and analyzed by position in ...

Aortoesophageal (AEF) and aortobronchial fistula (ABF) after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) are rare complications with catastrophic consequences without treatment. In this case report, we presented a patient with AEF and ABF after TEVAR successfully treated with endograft explantation and replaced by Dacron graft followed by esophagectomy and left principal bronchus repairing. We report a patient with AEF and ABF after TEVAR who was evaluated due to dysphagia and chest pain followed by ...

Abstract A test of lepton flavor universality in B ± → K ± μ + μ − and B ± → K ± e + e − decays, as well as a measurement of differential and integrated branching fractions of a nonresonant B ± → K ± μ + μ − decay are presented. The analysis is made possible by a dedicated data set of proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV recorded in 2018, by the CMS experiment at the LHC, using a special high-rate data stream designed for collecting about 10 billion unbiased b hadron decays. The ratio of the branching fractions B ( B ± → K ± μ + μ − ) to ...

Anastomotic pseudoaneurysm is a form of false aneurysm, whose wall, does not consist of all normal layers of arterial wall. Given the rising number of reconstructive vascular procedures, the increase of anastomotic pseudoaneurysm cases is expected. Therefore, identification of causes, clinical manifestations as well as factors which affect the outcome of operative treatment of anastomotic pseudoaneurysms is of great practical value. This retrospectively-prospective study included 87 surgically treated ...

Modern communication standards, such as 5G new radio (5G NR), require a high speed decoder for highly irregular quasi-cyclic low density parity check (QC-LDPC) codes. A widely used approach in QC-LDPC decoders is a layered decoding schedule which processes the parity check matrix in parts, thus providing faster convergence. However, pipelined layered decoding architecture suffers from data hazards that reduce the throughput. This paper presents a novel architecture, which can facilitate any QC-LDPC ...

Abstract This paper describes the situation in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, during the 1990s. An ecosystemic paradigm was used in its conceptualization and operationalization at multisystem levels of context. Description is based on research performed on 50 “normal” families under chronic stress and persistent crises, as well as on the authors' personal and professional experience, both as participants and observers faced with everyday, new stressful life events. The families have modified their system ...

There are few reports of stent graft infections and aortoenteric fistula after endovascular thoracic aortic aneurysm repair, and the first multicentric study (Italian survey) showed the incidence of about 2%. Case report. We presented a 69-year-old male patient admitted to our hospital 9 months after thoracic endovascular aortic repair, ...

Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (RAAA) with concomitant horseshoe kidney (HK) present a unique challenge at the time of repair. The aim of this article was to propose the most rationale strategy during open repair (OR) of RAAA in the presence of HK.We identified and analyzed all patients treated at the clinic due to RAAA and HK. An extensive search was performed on all articles published up to August of 2017 describing open and endovascular repair of RAAA with concomitant horseshoe kidney. The ...

Abstract Ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions create a strongly interacting state of hot and dense quark–gluon matter that exhibits a remarkable collective flow behavior with minimal viscous dissipation. To gain deeper insights into its intrinsic nature and fundamental degrees of freedom, we determine the speed of sound in an extended volume of quark–gluon plasma using lead–lead (PbPb) collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV. The data were recorded by the CMS experiment ...
