Abstract Treatments for dentine hypersensitivity (DH) may produce positive effects, though do not have lasting results. We investigated the reparative potential of stem cells derived from deciduous teeth (SHEDs) in response to components delivered from substances used in the treatment of the DH, associated or not to laser phototherapy (LPT), to stimulate dentine formation. SHEDs were submitted to substances delivered from a laboratorial P‐rich bioactive glass [57SiO 2 −26CaO‐17P 2 O 5 (wt %)] or a commercially ...

ABSTRACT Genetic resistance is one of the most suitable strategies to control cucurbit powdery mildew (CPM) on melon, incited by Podosphaera xanthii or Golovinomyces orontii. However, many races of these pathogens have been reported worldwide in recent years, what may compromise the effectiveness of this method. Thus, annual surveys of CPM races and the screening of germplasm for new sources of genetic resistance provide a vital support to melon breeding programs. This study aimed at identifying ...

The passion fruit woodiness disease, induced by Cowpea aphid borne mosaic virus (CABMV), is considered the most economically important factor limiting passion fruit production in many countries. This study aimed to assess the progression of symptoms caused by CABMV in different Passiflora species.Eighty genotypes belonging 12 species were evaluated in experiments carried out in a completely randomized block design with treatments arranged in a factorial scheme (80 genotypes x 7 evaluation intervals) ...

The okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) is one of the most important vegetables in the world and is a popular food item in many tropical and subtropical countries. Besides its cultivation for fresh consumption, okra also has potential industrial uses. Nonetheless, pests and diseases remain the most damaging factors affecting its crop yield. Among these, root-knot nematodes are the main pests limiting okra production. This study aimed to determine the responses of plant species of the Malvaceae ...

Lettuce is the main leafy vegetable grown in the world, being the crispy-leaf lettuce type predominant. With consecutive cultivation in the same area, several factors may impair yield, highlighting the damage caused by root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp. This study aimed at evaluating the reaction of twenty crispy-leaf lettuce cultivars to Meloidogyne incognita race 3, M. javanica and M. enterolobii.Three experiments were conducted, one for each nematode species. The experiments were carried out ...

Species are the currency of most biodiversity studies. However, many shortfalls and biases remain in our biodiversity estimates, preventing a comprehensive understanding of the eco-evolutionary processes that have shaped the biodiversity currently available on Earth. Biased biodiversity estimates also jeopardize the effective implementation of data-driven conservation strategies, ultimately leading to biodiversity loss. Here, we delve into the concept of the Latitudinal Taxonomy Gradient (LTG) and ...

Although Brazil is considered a megadiverse country, its rich freshwater biodiversity is still poorly known. A general overview of to-date knowledge on Protozoa, Rotifera, Cladocera, and Copepoda species and distribution in Brazilian Hydrographic Regions is presented here, based on literature data since the 1890s. Ecological studies provided most of the occurrence records. The results show high richness for all studied biological groups and unequal distribution of the occurrence records, which are ...

Abstract Aim Tall and structurally complex forests can provide ample habitat and niche space for climbing plants, supporting high liana species richness. We test to what extent canopy height (as a proxy of 3‐D habitat structure), climate and soil interact to determine species richness in the largest clade of Neotropical lianas. We expect that the effect of canopy height on species richness is higher for lianas from closed tropical rain forests compared to riparian and savanna habitats. Location Neotropics. ...

Background: The combined analysis of species ranges allows the detection of overall species richness patterns. As such, the reliability of richness maps is directly related to the accuracy of individual range estimates.Aims: We compared how species ranges and richness patterns are influenced according to the use of different methods (convex hull and alpha hull) and evaluated if differences in range estimates are related to the Wallacean shortfall. Methods: We used occurrence records of 386 species ...

The experimental design was completely randomized in a triple factorial scheme with four forest species (Neem - Azadirachta indica A. Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated gene (Cas) system and RNA interference (RNAi)-based non-transgenic approaches are powerful technologies capable of revolutionizing plant research and breeding. In recent years, the use of these modern technologies has been explored in various sectors of agriculture, introducing or improving important agronomic traits in plant crops, such as increased yield, nutritional quality, abiotic- and, mostly, biotic-stress resistance. ...

The root-knot nematodes (RKN) challenge okra production (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) worldwide and there are no reports of genetic resistance within the genus Abelmoschus. As an alternative, the compatibility for grafting of RKN-resistant malvaceous species with okra was assessed. Cotton (Gossypium spp.) genotypes are incompatible for grafting with okra. The kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.), the false roselle (Hibiscus acetosella Welw. ex Hiern.) and the roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) are compatible. ...
