In this paper development of Artificial Neural Network for classification of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes (T2D) is presented. For development of this system 310 samples consisting of information about Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) and blood test called HbA1c were used. All samples were obtained from several healthcare institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and diagnosis of prediabetes, T2D and healthy patients in this dataset were established by medical professionals. Two-layer feedforward backpropagation ...

Poorly regulated and insufficiently supervised medical devices (MDs) carry high risk of performance accuracy and safety deviations effecting the clinical accuracy and efficiency of patient diagnosis and treatments. Even with the increase of technological sophistication of devices, incidents involving defibrillator malfunction are unfortunately not rare. To address this, we have developed an automated system based on machine learning algorithms that can predict performance of defibrillators and possible ...

Aortic stenosis [AS] is set on the forth place of all cardiovascular disease in western world. Severe aortic stenosis [SAS] is one of the most common disease that in treatment demand cardiac surgery—replacement of native aortic valve with mechanical or biological prosthesis in our environment. SAS is often a consequence of a relapsed rheumatic heart disease. This paper present the possible modality of diagnosis SAS. Testing was done on 107 samples, 70 samples were SAS, and the rest of 37 were patients ...

This systematic review assesses current molecular targeted therapies for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a challenging condition with limited treatment options. Using PRISMA methodology, 166 eligible studies, involving 2526 patients (61.49% male, 38.51% female, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.59/1), were analyzed. In laboratory studies, 52.52% primarily used human glioblastoma cell cultures (HCC), and 43.17% employed animal samples (mainly mice). Clinical participants ranged from 18 to 100 years, with ...

Shiga toxin (stx) transduction in various food matrices has been evaluated with lysogens of Stx phages. stx transduction events were observed for many phages under appropriate conditions. Transduction did not occur at low pH and low temperatures. A total of 10(3) to 10(4) CFU ml(-1) was the minimal amount of donor and recipient strains necessary to generate transductants.

Optimization of media components for the growth and biomass production of Halobacterium salinarum VKMM 013 was carried out using response surface methodology. A second order quadratic model was estimated and media components were determined based on quadratic regression equation generated by model. These were 6.35 g L−1 of KCl, 9.70 g L−1 of MgSO4, 13.38 g L−1 of gelatin and 12.00 g L−1 of soluble starch in nutrient broth supplemented with artificial seawater with 20% (w/v) of NaCl. In these optimal ...

Purpose: The aims of this study are (1) to evaluate the spatial distribution of neovessels and mature vessels in human uveal melanoma tumors and (2) to determine whether vessel maturation is associated with the major indicators for poor prognosis. Methods: Immunohistochemical analyses were performed on human tissue specimens from enucleated eyes (n = 14) to assess total vessels, neovessels, mature vessels, and cell proliferation. Tumor morphology was analyzed by hematoxylin ...

Karstic cave systems in Slovenia receive substantial amounts of organic input from adjacent forest and freshwater systems. These caves host microbial communities that consist of distinct small colonies differing in colour and shape. Visible to the naked eye, the colonies cover cave walls and are strewn with light-reflecting water droplets. In this study, the diversity of prokaryotes constituting these unusual microbial communities in Pajsarjeva jama cave was examined. A molecular survey based on ...

In order to determine the habitat preferred by Myodes (before Clethrionomys) glareolus and the corresponding Puumala hantavirus seroprevalence in those habitats, we captured rodents simultaneously in three significantly different habitats. We compared trapping success and presence of virus per habitat during an ongoing epidemic in order to test the hypothesis of a density-dependent seroprevalence. Our study showed that bank vole population density, as well as Puumala virus seroprevalence, were habitat ...

Fatty liver disease is the most common cause of chronic liver disease in the United States. Noninvasive detection and quantification of fat is becoming more and more important clinically, due in large part to the growing prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Steatosis, the accumulation of fat-containing vacuoles within hepatocytes, is a key histologic feature of fatty liver disease. Liver biopsy, the current standard of reference for the assessment of steatosis, is invasive, has sampling ...

Abstract Background Saturated brines are extreme environments of low diversity. Salinibacter ruber is the only bacterium that inhabits this environment in significant numbers. In order to establish the extent of genetic diversity in natural populations of this microbe, the genomic sequence of reference strain DSM 13855 was compared to metagenomic fragments recovered from climax saltern crystallizers and obtained with 454 sequencing technology. This kind of analysis reveals the presence of metagenomic ...

The remarkable diversity of genes within the pool of prokaryotic genomes belonging to the same species or pan-genome is difficult to reconcile with the widely accepted paradigm which asserts that periodic selection within bacterial populations would regularly purge genomic diversity by clonal replacement. Recent evidence from metagenomics indicates that even within a single sample a large diversity of genomes can be present for a single species. We have found that much of the differential gene content ...

From 1998 to 2008 we noticed 3 cardiac deaths in male teenagers aged 18-19 during or after physical exercise. The first was working at the site recreatively, the second was engaged in soccer recreatively and the third was professional soccer player. One felt general tiredness and was exhausted of a heavily physical effort, the other after physical exercise became septic and the third was without symptoms. One died suddenly during physical exercise at the field and two died in the hospital. At the ...

We propose a new technique called Differential Cluster Analysis for side-channel key recovery attacks. This technique uses cluster analysis to detect internal collisions and it combines features from previously known collision attacks and Differential Power Analysis. It captures more general leakage features and can be applied to algorithmic collisions as well as implementation specific collisions. In addition, the concept is inherently multivariate. Various applications of the approach are possible: ...
