Abstract Introduction The dynamic range of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) amyloid β (Aβ 1–42 ) measurement does not parallel to cognitive changes in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and cognitively normal (CN) subjects across different studies. Therefore, identifying novel proteins to characterize symptomatic AD samples is important. Methods Proteins were profiled using a multianalyte platform by Rules Based Medicine (MAP‐RBM). Due to underlying heterogeneity and unbalanced sample size, we combined subjects (344 AD ...

Abstract Glycosylation of the heterocycle, 6,7-dihydro-imidazo [4,5-d] [1,3] diazepin-8(3H)-one, with suitably protected sugars under the influence of Lewis acid catalysts gave the β-D-ribo- and 3′-deoxy-β-D-erythropento-furanosyl nucleosides. Deprotection and reduction of the keto nucleosides with sodium borohydride gave the (8R)- and (8S)-3-β-D-glycofuranosyl-3,6,7,8-tetrahydroimidazo [4,5-d]-[1,3] diazepin-8-ols, the (8R)-isomers of which are potent inhibitors of adenosine deaminase.

The clinical pharmacodynamics of theophylline, which concerns the correlation between the serum theophylline concentration ([TH]) attained during therapy for asthma and improved pulmonary function or unwanted side effects, serves to link the pharmacokinetics of theophylline with the time course of clinical outcome. Although the minimum effective and maximum safe [TH]s have been known for some years, it was only recently shown that maximal improvement in pulmonary function lags behind rapidly changing [ ...

We have studied the correlation between myosin structure, myosin biochemistry, and muscle force. Two distinct orientations of the myosin light-chain domain were previously resolved using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy of spin-labeled regulatory light chains in scallop muscle fibers. In the present study, we measured isometric force during EPR spectral acquisition, in order to define how these two light-chain domain orientations are coupled to force and the myosin ATPase cycle. ...

Sudden salinity drops in Gulf Coast clam growing areas in Florida have been suggested as a cause of seed (juvenile) clam mortality. Laboratory experiments were used to assess short-term impacts of rapid salinity drops on hatchery-produced juvenile northern quahog (=hard clam), Mercenaria mercenaria, in two separate trials. Mortality and condition index (CI) were measured as response parameters. In Trial I, clams were exposed to a salinity drop of 5 ppt, 15 ppt, or 24 ppt over a span of 24 h, and the ...

Abstract We studied the metabolism of [U‐ 14 C]isoleucine by intact and homogenized corpora allata (CA) from various insect species to determine how this substrate is converted to precursors of juvenile hormone (JH). CA homogenates of the lepidopterans Manduca sexta, Hyalophora cecropia , and Samia cynthia metabolize [U‐ 14 C]isoleucine to several products including 2‐keto‐3‐methyl‐valerate, 2‐methylbutyrate, CO 2 , propionate, and acetate. Intact CA of male H. cecropia produce particularly high levels ...

Juvenile hormone III levels and juvenile hormone esterase activity were measured in whole body extracts and haemolymph, respectively, of female Aedes aegypti. The amount of juvenile hormone, determined by coupled gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, rose over the first 2 days after emergence from 0.7 to 7.5 ng/g, and then slowly fell over the next 5 days in females not given a blood meal. In females fed blood, juvenile hormone levels fell during the first 3 h to 2.3 ng/g. The rate of decline then ...
