Abstract Introduction: BCL-2 is an anti-apoptotic protein that is commonly overexpressed in hematologic malignancies, including Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL). Venetoclax is a selective, potent, orally bioavailable BCL-2 inhibitor. Patients (pts) with relapsed/refractory (R/R) NHL were enrolled in a phase 1, open-label, dose-escalation, multicenter study to determine the safety, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy of venetoclax monotherapy. We present updated data on the safety profile and efficacy as of June ...

The present studies investigated the cellular mechanisms for the detrimental effects of high dose whole body γ-irradiation on bone. In addition, radioadaptation and bone marrow transplantation were assessed as interventions to mitigate the skeletal complications of irradiation. Increased trabecular thickness and separation and reduced cancellous bone volume fraction, connectivity density, and trabecular number were detected in proximal tibia and lumbar vertebra 14days following γ-irradiation with ...

Objective Estrogen deficiency after menopause results in rapid bone loss, predisposing women to osteoporotic fractures. Genistein, a phytoestrogen present in high concentrations in soy, is an ingredient in dietary supplements aggressively marketed for bone health. However, in a recent long-duration clinical trial in postmenopausal women, the efficacy of soy extracts in reducing bone loss was disappointing. To better understand the failure of soy extracts to consistently induce a robust skeletal ...

Abstract Fox squirrel Sciurus niger populations in the southeastern United States appear to have declined, and 3 (S. n. cinereus, S. n. shermani, and S. n. avicennia) of the 10 subspecies are currently listed with a conservation status of protection. Efforts to conserve and manage fox squirrels in the southeastern United States are constrained by difficulties in studying their populations because of low densities and low detectability. There is a need for an effective survey method to fill knowledge ...

Current evidence on predictors of outcomes after distal radius fracture is often based on retrospective analyses or may be confounded by fracture type. Using data from the Wrist and Radius Injury Surgical Trial (WRIST), a 24-site randomized study of distal radius fracture treatment, in which all fractures are severe enough to warrant surgery, we set out to perform a secondary data analysis to explore predictors of better or worse hand outcomes. The primary outcome measure was the Michigan Hand Outcomes ...

The current study compared adherence rates as measured by two indirect measurement methods (pill count and daily medication diary) to two direct measurement methods (urine riboflavin and serum 6-OH-buspirone level measurement) among participants (n = 109) in a medication treatment trial for cannabis dependence. Pill count and diary data showed high levels of percent agreement and strong kappa coefficients throughout the study. Riboflavin levels indicated lower level of percent in adherence during the ...

The human voltage dependent anion channel 1 (VDAC) is a 32 kDa β-barrel integral membrane protein that controls the transport of ions across the outer mitochondrial membrane. Despite the determination of VDAC solution and diffraction structures, a structural basis for the mechanism of its function is not yet fully understood. Biophysical studies suggest VDAC requires a lipid bilayer to achieve full function, motivating the need for atomic resolution structural information of VDAC in a membrane environment. ...

Abstract The role of the proto-oncogene c-src in mouse development has been investigated by studying the consequences of expressing its viral homologue, v-src. Embryonic stem (ES) cell lines with differing levels of v-src tyrosine kinase activity have been used to generate chimaeric mice. Whereas a low level of v-src expression is compatible with embryogenesis, chimaeras derived from ES clones with high levels of v-src activity develop abnormally and die on the 8th–9th day of gestation. These abnormalities ...
