According to Weiner's model, help giving has various determinants such as social and individual causes, affective reactions, and responsibility. The aim of this study was (1) to examine the influence of bullying acts, the victim's behavior at work, and revictimization on equity judgments and the perceived responsibility of perpetrators and victims; and (2) to test the determinants of help decisions. Twelve vignettes of bullying at work submitted to 133 participants varied according to the severity ...

AbstractFor more than fifty years, research in psychology has demonstrated that our evaluation of others may be influenced by their surname or first name. In this study, we evaluated the impact of the attractiveness and frequency of names in situations of recruitment for low qualification level jobs. Using data from a recruitment agency, we tested (binomial regression) for effects associated with first name popularity, surname frequency, first name + surname attractiveness, ethnicity, gender, and age ...

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of EMDR in reducing PTSD symptoms, anxiety and depression. Thirty-six women participated in this study; 12 were treated with EMDR, 12 received eclectic psychotherapy, and 12 were assigned to the control group. Women in the EMDR condition showed significantly reduced PTSD and anxiety compared with those in the eclectic psychotherapy condition. Research has found that exposition to red is associated with physiological activation and fighting spirit. A field experiment was conducted to explore whether the color of cars is related to an aggressive response. Drivers waiting at a traffic light were blocked by an experimental car. The color of the car varied (blue, red, green, black, and white). The amount of time that elapsed until the drivers responded by honking their horns or beaming their headlights was the dependent variable. It was found ...

Purpose The purpose of this study is to test a model of the relations between positive and negative work‐to‐home interference home‐to‐work interference on perceived stress, and job satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach The mediating role of negative and positive work‐to‐home interference (WHI) and home‐to‐work interference (HWI) was examined. Perceived stress as a mediator was also tested. Data were obtained from a sample of 283 French employees. Findings The results of structural equation modeling ...

Objectives: The present study was prompted by the lack of agreement on how coping changes with age. We postulate that the effect of age on coping is mediated by coping resources, such as self-efficacy, perceived stress and social support satisfaction. Method: The participants in the study were community dwelling and aged between 22 and 88 years old. Data were collected using the General Self Efficacy Scale, the Social Support Questionnaire, the Perceived Stress Scale, the Geriatric Depression Scale, ...

The aim of this research was to explore the structure of the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) by using data analysis in order to question its theoretical and methodological bases in a critical and positive way. Unidimensional analyses and two-dimensional analyses of the scale were carried out on a sample of 600 individuals. The typological analysis of the data subsequently made it possible to cross these two analyses and revealed that the individuals who have average stress (45% of the sample) according ...

It had been found that environmental music was associated with an increase in alcohol consumption. The presence versus absence of music, high versus slow tempo and the different styles of environmental music is associated with different level of alcohol consumption. However, the effect of the level of the environmental music played in a bar still remained in question.Forty male beer drinkers were observed in a bar. According to a random distribution, patrons were exposed to the usual level of environmental ...

Résumé The aim of this study is to test the hypothesis according to which the imbalance between effort and reward, as well as to what degree the interference of professional life upon one’s private life, can affect the level of job burnout felt by a group of dairy farmers. The sample group was composed of dairy farmers (N = 104) from Eure who were sent a questionnaire by mail. Each questionnaire was designed to collect results which could be analysed with the help of the Siegrist scale (the effort-reward ...

"Foot-in-the-door" is a well-known compliance technique which increases compliance to a request. Many investigations with this paradigm have generally used prosocial requests to test its effect. Evaluation of the effect of foot-in-the-door was carried out with a courtship request. 360 young women were solicited in the street to accept having a drink with a young male confederate. In the foot-in-the-door condition, before being solicited to have a drink, the young woman was asked to give directions ...
