The archaeological site of Almaraz is located in the old part of the city of Almada, in the south shore of Tagus River, region of Lisbon. The excavated findings and the radiocarbon dating of the contexts where these were found show an occupation that can in fact be dated from the 8th to the 7th c. BCE period, thus a very early stage of the Phoenician occupation in the Iberian Peninsula. Numerous amphorae sherds were found at Almaraz. A spectroscopic characterization of those ceramics was made and ...

Massive rotator cuff tears (MRCTs) are usually chronic lesions with pronounced degenerative changes, where advanced fatty degeneration and atrophy can make the tear irreparable. Human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) secrete a range of growth factors and vesicular systems, known as secretome, that mediates regenerative processes in tissues undergoing degeneration. To study the effect of hMSC secretome on muscular degenerative changes and shoulder function on a rat MRCT model.Controlled laboratory study. ...

Biological data concerning the abundance, age, growth and reproduction of seven species of gobies in the Ria de Aveiro lagoon (Portugal) are presented and discussed. The seasonal changes in species abundance are ascribed either to recruitment and mortality or to sporadic occurrence. Gobius niger, Pomatoschistus minutus and P. microps are included in the first case, and P. pictus, P. lozanoi, Aphia minuta and G. paganellus in the second. Only G. niger and G. paganellus were found to live more than ...

Abstract Background Individuals with a non-syndromic family history of colorectal cancer are known to have an increased risk. There is an opportunity to prevent early-onset colorectal cancer (age less than 50 years) (EOCRC) in this population. The aim was to explore the proportion of EOCRC that is preventable due to family history of colorectal cancer. Methods This was a retrospective multicentre European study of patients with non-hereditary EOCRC. The impact of the European Society of Gastrointestinal ...

In this paper, we present the general tectonic framework that conditioned the evolution of the Lusitanian Basin during the Jurassic, when most of the filling of the basin was accumulated. The rifting episodes and the evolution of the basin’s geometry are presented and their close relationship with the main basin-wide unconformities is discussed. The unconformity-bounded sequences are briefly presented as a basis for understanding the evolution of the sedimentary environments. This constitutes the ...

Adivinhas de Pedro e Inês (1983) by Agustina Bessa-Luís exposes the History of late medieval Iberia ―and, in particular, the one of the lovers Pedro and Inês de Castro― as a multiple and confused net of partial and contradictory versions. Seeking to demonstrate a (possible) truth as a response to a serie of «riddles» (adivinhas), the narrative re-elaborates – suppresses, adapts, changes, defamiliarizes – the historical referents. Focusing on the representation of the kings known as «the cruels» (Peter I of ...
