Ethylone is a synthetic cathinone recently found in illicit drugs, due to its similar central nervous system-stimulation properties with ‘ecstasy’. Due to the necessity of a rapid and routine on-site determination of ethylone in illicit drugs, electrochemical techniques seem to be an advantageous analytical tool. In this report, a novel voltammetric method using a boron-doped diamond electrode to determinate ethylone was developed and applied in seized street drugs. Electrochemical behavior of ethylone ...

ABSTRACT: The passion fruit (Passiflora cincinnata Mast.) is a perennial and drought resistant species that represents a new alternative crop for small farmers in rainfed conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the vegetative and physiological development of passion fruit plants derived from two propagation methods and grown at varied planting spacing. The experiment was conducted from January to June of 2012, in the Universidade Estadual do Sudoeste da Bahia (State University from Southwestern Bahia), ...

This paper documents the seventeenth data release (DR17) from the Sloan Digital Sky Surveys; the fifth and final release from the fourth phase (SDSS-IV). DR17 contains the complete release of the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory (MaNGA) survey, which reached its goal of surveying over 10,000 nearby galaxies. The complete release of the MaNGA Stellar Library (MaStar) accompanies this data, providing observations of almost 30,000 stars through the MaNGA instrument during bright time. ...

This paper presents a conceptual design for quantum heat machines using a pair of coupled double quantum dots (DQDs), each DQD with an excess electron to interact, as an working substance. We define a compression ratio as the ratio between the Coulomb couplings which describes the interaction between the electrons during the isochoric processes of the quantum Otto cycle and then we analyse the arising of different regimes of operations of our thermal machine. We also show how we can achieve a classically ...

Chromosomal microarray (CMA) is now recommended as first tier for the evaluation in individuals with unexplained neurodevelopmental disorders (ND). However, in developing countries such as Brazil, classical cytogenetic tests are still the most used in clinical practice, as reflected by the scarcity of publications of microarray investigation in larger cohorts. This is a retrospective study which analyses the reading files of CMA and available clinical data from 420 patients from the south of Brazil, ...

Currently, chromosomal microarrays (CMA) are recommended as first-tier test in the investigation of developmental disorders to examine copy number variations. The modern platforms also include probes for single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that detect homozygous regions in the genome, such as long contiguous stretches of homozygosity (LCSH) also named runs of homozygosity (ROH). LCHS are chromosomal segments resulting from complete or segmental chromosomal homozygosity, which may be indicative of ...

In the present paper, a new analytical preconcentration/speciation method for antimony species determination in bottled mineral water samples using the SiO2/Al2O3/SnO2 adsorbent was developed. The method is based on selective adsorption of Sb(III) ions by SiO2/Al2O3/SnO2 under a wide pH range (2.5-7.5). Total antimony was determined with previous sample treatment using 0.1% (w/v) l-cysteine and the concentration of Sb(V) species was determined by the difference between total and Sb(III). The proposed ...

A simple, low-cost and sensitive electroanalytical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of p-nitrophenol and o-nitrophenol isomers in water samples at a glassy carbon electrode (CGE) in the presence of cationic surfactant. The electrochemical behavior of p-nitrophenol and o-nitrophenol was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 0.1 mol L−1 acetate/acetic acid buffer (pH 3.70) in the presence and absence of cetylpyridinium bromide. The resolution of overlapped cathodic peaks potentials ( ...

A new restricted access cadmium ion-imprinted poly(allythiourea) was synthesized and evaluated as sorbent for Cd2+ preconcentration with simultaneous exclusion of humic acid (HA). Restricted access medium-ion imprinted polymer was assessed by using the co-monomer 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) as well as by surface coating with bovine serum albumin (BSA). A set of techniques were used for sorbent characterization including, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy ( ...

This paper presents a three-port three-phase current-fed dc-dc converter with high-frequency isolation and bidirectional power flow. Port I is fed by a battery bank, port II employs a set of photovoltaic modules, and port III is connected to a dc link. The topology uses three single-phase H-bridge cells in the primary side and a three-phase H-bridge converter in the secondary one. High-frequency isolation is ensured by three single-phase transformers connected in an open delta-wye configuration. ...

An early development of a proinflammatory immune response (Th1 response) is necessary for Leishmania-infection resolution.
