Abstract We report results of non‐relativistic and two‐component relativistic single‐reference coupled‐cluster with single and double and perturbative triple excitations [CCSD(T)] treatments for the 4p‐block dimers Ga 2 to Br 2 , the 5p‐block dimers In 2 to I 2 , and their atoms. Extended basis sets up to pentuple zeta are employed and energies extrapolated to the complete basis‐set limit. Relativistic and non‐relativistic results for the dissociation energy D e are in close agreement with each other ...

We present a study of the electronic structure of the [UO2](+), [UO2](2 +), [UO2](3 +), NUO, [NUO](+), [NUO](2 +), [NUN](-), NUN, and [NUN](+) molecules with the intermediate Hamiltonian Fock-space coupled cluster method. The accuracy of mean-field approaches based on the eXact-2-Component Hamiltonian to incorporate spin-orbit coupling and Gaunt interactions are compared to results obtained with the Dirac-Coulomb Hamiltonian. Furthermore, we assess the reliability of calculations employing approximate density functionals ...

Last years witnessed a remarkable interest in application of quantum computing for solving problems in quantum chemistry more efficiently than classical computers allow. Very recently, even first proof-of-principle experimental realizations have been reported. However, so far only the non-relativistic regime (i.e. Schroedinger equation) has been explored, while it is well known that relativistic effects can be very important in chemistry. In this letter we present the first quantum algorithm for ...

Advances in light microscopy have enabled the visualization of DNA in the interphase nucleus with more detail than is visible with conventional light microscopy. The nuclear architecture is assumed to be different in cancer cells compared to normal cells. In this paper we have studied, for the first time, the organization of nuclear DNA and that of DNA-free space in control lymphocytes, Hodgkin cells and Reed-Sternberg cells using 3D structured illumination microscopy (SIM). We have observed detail ...

The electrostatic contribution to the Mössbauer isomer shift of mercury for the series HgF n (n = 1, 2, 4) with respect to the neutral atom has been investigated in the framework of four- and two-component relativistic theory. Replacing the integration of the electron density over the nuclear volume by the contact density (that is, the electron density at the nucleus) leads to a 10% overestimation of the isomer shift. The systematic nature of this error suggests that it can be incorporated into a correction ...

PRRSV is one of the most important viruses in the global swine industry and is often controlled by the use of modified live virus (MLV) vaccines. This study assessed the impact of a PRRSV-1 MLV vaccine applied to 1-day-old piglets challenged on day 28 of life with a PRRSV-1 field isolate (AUT15-33). Twenty-one piglets were vaccinated within 24 h of birth (T02), whereas 20 piglets were left unvaccinated (T01). Necropsy was performed two weeks post-challenge. Comparing the two groups, T02 piglets showed ...

Carbon-13 hyperpolarized pyruvate is about to become the next-generation contrast agent for molecular magnetic resonance imaging of cancer and other diseases. Here, efficient and rapid pyruvate hyperpolarization is achieved via signal amplification by reversible exchange (SABRE) with parahydrogen through synergistic use of substrate deuteration, alternating, and static microtesla magnetic fields. Up to 22 and 6% long-lasting 13C polarization (T1 = 3.7 ± 0.25 and 1.7 ± 0.1 min) is demonstrated for the C1 ...

Nuclear spin hyperpolarization provides a promising route to overcome the challenges imposed by the limited sensitivity of nuclear magnetic resonance. Here we demonstrate that dissolution of spin-polarized pentacene-doped naphthalene crystals enables transfer of polarization to target molecules via intermolecular cross-relaxation at room temperature and moderate magnetic fields (1.45 T). This makes it possible to exploit the high spin polarization of optically polarized crystals, while mitigating ...

These views have been challenged recently ascribing limited potential for legume-based crop rotations to increase carbon stocks in Chernozems (Mollisols) ...

Abstract Hyperpolarization techniques increase nuclear spin polarization by more than four orders of magnitude, enabling metabolic MRI. Even though hyperpolarization has shown clear value in clinical studies, the complexity, cost and slowness of current equipment limits its widespread use. Background Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a contributor to embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS). Subgroup analyses from previous studies suggest that anticoagulation could reduce recurrent stroke compared with antiplatelet therapy. We hypothesised that anticoagulant treatment with rivaroxaban, an oral factor Xa inhibitor, would reduce the risk of recurrent ischaemic stroke compared with aspirin among patients with PFO enrolled in the NAVIGATE ESUS trial. Methods NAVIGATE ESUS was a double-blinded, ...

The first measurements from proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC are presented. Data were collected in December 2009 using a minimum-bias trigger during collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 900 GeV. The charged-particle multiplicity, its dependence on transverse momentum and pseudorapidity, and the relationship between mean transverse momentum and charged-particle multiplicity are measured for events with at least one charged particle in the kinematic range |eta| ...

Abstract Parahydrogen‐induced polarization (PHIP) is an inexpensive way to produce hyperpolarized molecules with polarization levels of >10 % in the solution‐state, but is strongly limited in generality since it requires chemical reactions/ interactions with H 2 . Here we report a new method to widen the scope of PHIP hyperpolarization: a source molecule is produced via PHIP with high 13 C polarization, and precipitated out of solution together with a target species. Spin diffusion within the solid carries ...
