The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of extracts of different fractions of two tomato plant cultivars. The stems, roots, leaves, and whole-plant fractions were evaluated. Tomatine and tomatidine were identified by HPLC-DAD. The leaf extracts from the two varieties showed the highest flavonoids, chlorophyll, carotenoids, and total phenolics contents and the highest antioxidant activity determined by DPPH, ABTS, and ORAC. A positive correlation was ...

The objective was to review the potential effects of adding anthocyanin delphinidin-3-O-sambubioside (DOS) and cyanidin-3-O-sambubioside (COS) of HS in animal diets. One hundred and four scientific articles published before 2021 in clinics, pharmacology, nutrition, and animal production were included. The grains/concentrate, metabolic exigency, and caloric stress contribute to increasing the reactive oxygen species (ROS). COS and DOS have antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, and anthelmintic activities. ...

The production of customized products requires a flexible production process. Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS) are currently seen as one possibility to achieve this goal, since flexibility for the production processes can be achieved by enabling cross-company collaboration. However, to fully implement CPPS for heterogeneous production systems an application and hardware platform independent, robust, and distributed software solution is required. This paper proposes a novel design and implementation ...

The growing complexity of production systems requires appropriate control architectures that allow flexible adaptation during their runtime. Although cyber-physical production systems (CPPS) provide the means to cope with complexity and flexibility, the migration with existing control systems is still a challenge. The term CPPS denotes a mechatronic system (physical world) coupled with software entities and digital information (cyber part), both enabling the smart factory concept for the Industry 4. ...

Abstract The Cyber-Physical Production System (CPPS) is a concept derived from software (cyber) and hardware (physical) applications and is based on global information exchange between such systems. The CPPS is known as a trend of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) focusing on flexibility regarding new products and adaptability to new requirements. This paper focuses on two I4.0 scenarios described by the Platform Industrie 4.0 that describe challenges for the industry towards its digital future. First, it looks at ...

Abstract Due to the increase in Artificial Intelligence in the production systems domain, Industry 4.0 (I4.0) experts must collaborate with autonomous systems. Industrial AI raises several concerns about existing standards, which provide guidelines and design patterns. One way to realize I4.0 systems are Industrial Agents (IAs) due to their inherent autonomy and collaboration. Multi-Agent Systems (MASs) are well suited for realizing distributed AI in I4.0 components. Considering the properties of IAs ...

The photo-Fenton process, with UV-A LED (λ = 380–390, 390–400 and 380–400 nm) has demonstrated to be effective in the abatement of a target micropollutant, such as diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPH). Different concentrations of iron (Fe2+) and H2O2 were tested and monitored, and the best results in DPH removal were obtained for the highest concentrations of both iron (II) and H2O2 (10 mg Fe2+/L - 150 mg H2O2/L). The evolution of iron and peroxide concentration was also monitored. Kinetic studies showed ...

The probability of failure of tailing dams and associated risks demand improvements in engineering practice. The critical state line provides a robust framework for the characterization of mine tailings. New experimental data for nonplastic platinum tailings and a large database for tailings and nonplastic soils (grain size between 2 and 500 μm) show that the critical state parameters for nonplastic tailings follow the same trends as nonplastic soils as a function of particle-scale characteristics ...

Amphipods were absent in SBS, and their density and biomass were higher in SAV (3351 individualsm(-2), 1718 mg AFDWm(-2)) than in T. testudinum (1220 indm(-2), 625 mg AFDWm(-2)). Abstract A mine waste deposit known as a tailings dam recently failed in the town of Jagersfontein, South Africa. The failure occurred amidst global concern about the safety record of these structures. Herein we use public remotely sensed data to gain insights into the construction history of the dam. The data suggest a construction sequence that is inconsistent with sound tailings management practices: asymmetric deposition, erosion gullies, large ponds and absence of beaches. These observations ...
