Abstract Background Multimorbidity is a growing concern for healthcare systems, with many countries experiencing demographic transition to older population profiles. A simple multisource comorbidity score (MCS) has been recently developed and validated. A very large real-world investigation was conducted with the aim of measuring inequalities in the MCS distribution across Italy. Methods Beneficiaries of the Italian National Health Service aged 50–85 years who in 2018 were resident in one of the ...

In tropical systems, habitat heterogeneity and resource availability have been reported as important factors driving ant species richness and composition. For this reason, these variables have been widely used as indicators of forest disturbance. The aim of this study was to compare the composition and richness of arboreal ants between the dry and wet seasons in three successional stages of a tropical dry forest at the Parque Estadual da Mata Seca, northern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. Ant sampling ...

The benefits of ERP are well demonstrated in colorectal surgery and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) programs, that epitomise the ERP concept, have being introduced in different specialties, including vascular, gastric, pancreatic, urogynecologic and orthopaedic surgery. We collected optical (4580-5330 A), high resolution (R = 34,000), high signal-to-noise ratio (200) spectra for 113 RRLs with the multi-fiber spectrograph M2FS at the Magellan/Clay Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. We also analysed high resolution (R = 26,000) spectra for 122 RRLs collected with FLAMES/GIRAFFE at the VLT, available in the ESO archive. The current sample doubles the literature ...

Abstract Background Sea lamprey ( Petromyzon marinus ) is a diadromous fish compromised by various stressors, which can lead to population decline and the urgency of stronger conservation regulation. In the absence of documentation of direct knowledge of local populations, a broader zoological and ecological understanding of sea lamprey fishing has become vital for the preservation of traditional practices and conservation of this migratory fish. To this purpose, we collected data from the P. marinus ...

Anadromous sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus Linnaeus, 1758) uses many environments in its life cycle, which makes them even more susceptible to any environmental changes. Due to the potential of local ecological knowledge (LEK) in fishing villages on the Minho River, this study provided information on trophic chain, conservation, gastronomy, taboos, and food aversions of the sea lamprey. The discharge of pollutants, physical barriers, and climate change were considered a threat to the conservation ...

People's intuitive predictions under uncertainty may rely on the representativeness or on the availability heuristics (Tversky & Kahneman, 1974). However, the distinction between these two heuristics has never been clear, and both have been proposed to underlie the same judgment tasks. For instance, when judging what outcome is likely to be next in a coin flip after a streak, representativeness leads to predicting an alternation in the outcome, ending the streak (gambler's fallacy), whereas availability ...

The results of experimental measurements of (p, α) reactions on nuclei in the rare earth region are reported. It is shown that the dominant acting mechanism is precompound emission. From the absolute cross-section value fitting, the α-preformation probability in the target nucleus can be evaluated. Its values are very close to the ones extracted from (n, α) analysis in the same mass region.

Background. Periodontal diseases (PDs) are infectious diseases in which periodontopathogens trigger chronic inflammatory and immune responses that lead to tissue destruction. Recently, viruses have been implicated in the pathogenesis of PDs. Individuals infected with human T lymphotropic virus 1 (HTLV-1) present with abnormal oral health and a marked increased prevalence of periodontal disease.
