This study was carried out in Pang Prarachatan village, which is located in Chiang Rai province of northern Thailand. The farmers in this village construct bench terraces to reduce soil erosion and increase plant productivity. However, severe soil erosion occurs frequently on the bare bench terraces. This study investigates the impact of bench terracing on soil erosion. The use of weeds and plant residues to control soil and nutrient losses were also investigated using model slope plots and an artificial ...

In semi-mountainous paddy fields of Japan, severe erosion occurs as a result of heavy rainfall or storm. In view of the considerable significance of agricultural land conservation for sustainable agriculture in semi-mountainous paddy fields, this study was conducted to show erosion phenomena and to consider the conservation effects of agricultural land consolidation which is carried out to make field sizes larger, mechanization easier and productivity per unit area higher. As the paddy field surface ...

The objectives of this study are to observe soil, nitrogen and phosphorus losses under different amounts of fertilizer during the typhoon of 20 June 1997, and to evaluate the effects of soil and nutrient losses associated with the typhoon on the annual loads. Cumulative rainfall of 143·5 mm was recorded during the typhoon of 20 June 1997. At the onset of surface runoff, the concentration of ammonium nitrogen was dominant among inorganic nitrogen, and gradually decreased with cumulative surface discharge. ...

This article critically explores the relationship between the gendered nature of sport in Colombia and girls and young women's social in/exclusion in football (soccer) through the lived experiences of female participants involved in a local Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) organization. Building on 6 months of ethnographic fieldwork and Lave and Wenger's theory of Community of Practice (CoP), I explore the complex and connected gendered social elements that constrain girls and young women's participation. ...

Agricultural expansion and urban development without proper soil erosion control measures have become major environmental problems in Cambodia. Due to a high population growth rate and increased economic activities, land use and land cover (LULC) changes will cause environmental disturbances, particularly soil erosion. This research aimed to estimate total amounts of soil loss using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) model within a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. LULC ...

This study deals with the transfer of nitrogen and phosphorus in surface runoff from eroding upland fields in Japan, Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) standard plots were installed in the upland fields, and differing amounts of fertilizer were spread on each plot. The supernatant was obtained from each sample by centrifugal separation. Total nitrogen and total phosphorus in the eroded suspension and supernatant were separately analysed by means of absorption spectrophotometry. Additionally, the ...
