The Hough transform is a voting scheme for locating geometric objects in point clouds. This paper describes its application for detecting lines in three dimensional point clouds. For parameter quantization, a recently proposed method for Hough parameter space regularization is used. The voting process is done in an iterative way by selecting the line with the most votes and removing the corresponding points in each step. To overcome the inherent inaccuracies of the parameter space discretization, ...

Abstract Aims Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) are the most common cardiac diseases and often coexist leading to increased mortality and morbidity compared with AF patients without HF. As shown previously, AF ablation using radio frequency (RF) in HF patients leads to a reduction of AF burden, an increase of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and consequently to reduced hospitalization and mortality. Previous AF ablation studies on HF patients have been liberal about additional ...

Flashes of light or phosphenes are the sensation of light without light actually entering the eye. This phenomenon can be evoked by stimulation of the retina or the visual cortex of the brain and can appear unilaterally or bilaterally. From an ophthalmologic perspective, phosphenes can arise from photoreceptor induction by mechanical,1,2 inflammatory,3 or vascular4 stimuli. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the origin of phosphenes for further management. We encountered a patient who reported ...

Achondrogenesis type IA (Houston-Harris) is an extremely rare lethal chondrodysplasia with a characteristic severe disarrangement of endochondral ossification. The growth plate cartilage completely lacks columnar-zone formation and shows chondrocyte expansion due to intracellular vacuoles. Impurities in a Fermi sea, or Fermi polarons, experience a Casimir interaction induced by quantum fluctuations of the medium. When there is short-range attraction between impurities and fermions, also the induced interaction between two impurities is strongly attractive at short distance and oscillates in space for larger distances. Harmful algal blooms are mainly caused by marine dinoflagellates and are known to produce potent toxins that may affect the ecosystem, human activities and health. Such events have increased in frequency and intensity worldwide in the past decades. Numerous processes involved in Global Change are amplified in the Arctic, but little is known about species specific responses of arctic dinoflagellates. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the combination of daptomycin and fosfomycin in experimental chronic implant-associated osteomyelitis due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Infection was induced in the tibiae of rats by the insertion of a bacterial inoculum (1 to 5 × 10 8 CFU/ml) of a clinical MRSA isolate and a titanium wire. Four weeks after infection, each animal was assigned to a treatment group: daptomycin monotherapy at 60 mg/kg of body weight once daily ( n = 10), ...

Abstract. Applications like air quality, fire detection and detection of explosives require selective and quantitative measurements in an ever-changing background of interfering gases. One main issue hindering the successful implementation of gas sensors in real-world applications is the lack of appropriate calibration procedures for advanced gas sensor systems. This article presents a calibration scheme for gas sensors based on statistically distributed gas profiles with unique randomized gas mixtures. ...

Following the growing success of generative neural networks in LHC simulations, the crucial question is how to control the networks and assign uncertainties to their event output. We show how Bayesian normalizing flow or invertible networks capture uncertainties from the training and turn them into an uncertainty on the event weight. Fundamentally, the interplay between density and uncertainty estimates indicates that these networks learn functions in analogy to parameter fits rather than binned ...

Bayesian neural networks allow us to keep track of uncertainties, for example in top tagging, by learning a tagger output together with an error band. We illustrate the main features of Bayesian versions of established deep-learning taggers. Altogether, Bayesian networks offer many new handles to understand and control deep learning at ...

It addresses how interactions between the interior of a planet or a moon and its atmosphere and surface (including hydrosphere and biosphere) can affect habitability of the celestial body.
