This study analyses the removal of phenol and cadmium ion (Cd2+) using activated carbon obtained from peanut shells. No previous studies have reported the use of this adsorbent material on the binary removal of these contaminants. A new isolated P. citreonigrum URM 4459 was selected to produce fructooligosaccharides (FOS) in an efficient, economical and fast one-step fermentation. Optimal culture conditions were stablished by experimental design. Experiments run in bioreactor resulted in a high yield, content, productivity and purity of FOS (0.65 ± 0.06 gFOS/ginitial Sucrose, 126.3 ± 0.1 g/L, 2.28 ± 0.08 g/L.h and 61 ± 0%). The control of defects in cadmium sulfide thin films and its impact on the resulting CdS optical and electrical characteristics are studied. Sulfur vacancies and cadmium interstitial concentrations in the CdS films are controlled using the ambient pressure during pulsed laser deposition. CdS film resistivities ranging from 10− 1 to 104 Ω-cm are achieved.
