Industrial wastewater treatment, by combined processes, has recently been seen as a novel and economically attractive strategy. The use of Pleurotus sajor-caju, followed by electrochemical oxidation (EO) for sugarcane vinasse degradation was investigated. Vinasse degradation treatment with P. sajor-caju yielded efficient color removal (97%), turbidity (99%), chemical oxygen demand (COD) (50.6%), and total organic carbon (TOC) (57.3%). Ligninolytic enzyme production was seen, and the highest laccase activity ...

Abstract The interaction of nickel(II) and cobalt(II) with a set of 3‐hydroxy‐4‐pyridinone ligands (Hmpp, Hmepp, Hetpp, Hempp, Hdepp and Hdmpp) was investigated in aqueous solution. The family of chelators under study is pharmaceutically relevant in the treatment of iron‐overloaded patients and it is foreseen to be of use in occupational health situations associated with accumulation of nickel and cobalt such as nasal/pulmonary and skin hazards and allergies. Ligand dissociation constants and stability ...

The use of alternative methods is necessary to improve the production of lignin-modifying enzymes (LMEs) in the biocatalysis scenario. This study demonstrates a new and robust optimization for Lac and MnP enzymes production from Pleurotus sajor-caju induced by pulp wash citrus byproduct. The optimal values determined through response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network coupled to the genetic algorithm (ANN-GA) were agitation rate (180 rpm) and pH (5.5), with a temperature of 28 ºC, ...

Results from an investigation in an in vivo model of STZ-induced diabetic rats demonstrate that compound bis(1,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxy-4(1H)-pyridinonate)zinc(II), Zn(dmpp)2, significantly lowers the blood glucose levels of individuals, thus showing evidence of glucose lowering activity. The compound was selected from a set of eight zinc(II) complexes of 3-hydroxy-4-pyridinones with diverse lipophilicity that were prepared and characterized in our laboratory. Assessment of insulin-like activity of ...

This study demonstrates the evaluation between the artificial neural network technique coupled to the genetic algorithm (ANN-GA) and the response surface methodology (RSM) for prediction of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) decolorization by crude enzyme from Pleurotus. sajor-caju. Fungal lignin-modifying enzymes (FLME) were synthesized using pulp wash (PW) as an inducing substrate, and L. cylindrica (L.C) for cell immobilization. When grown in PW, the fungus showed higher Lac activity (126.5 IU. mL-1), whereas when ...

Long-distance transportation provides in-vehicle access to essential sanitation to the passengers. However, generated yellow and black waters may not be correctly managed prior sanitary effluent discharge. The objective is to reveal the cumulative risk from multiple losses and unrecovered bodies, 10 years after, compared with grievers from road accidents. There are 2 groups of relatives of victims: from this tragedy (n = 20), with at least 1 unrecovered body; and from road traffic accidents (n = 20), with the same time after loss. New Findings What is the central question of this study? Normal diastolic and systolic intraventricular pressure gradients are decreased when left ventricular filling and/or emptying are compromised. We hypothesized that in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis, a condition that interferes with ventricular filling and emptying, those gradients would be disturbed. What is the main finding and its importance? We showed the existence of intraventricular pressure gradients throughout the cardiac ...
