Adipose-derived stem cells are a subtype of mesenchymal stem cell that offers the important advantage of being easily obtained (in an autologous manner) from low invasive procedures, rendering a high number of multipotent stem cells with the potential to differentiate into several cellular lineages, to show immunomodulatory properties, and to promote tissue regeneration by a paracrine action through the secretion of extracellular vesicles containing trophic factors. This secretome is currently being ...

Oxidative stress has a strong impact on the development of retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF) is a novel therapeutic approach in ophthalmological pathologies. The aim of this study was to analyze the antioxidant effect of PRGF in retinal epithelial cells (EPR) in in vitro and ex vivo retinal phototoxicity models. In vitro analyses were performed on ARPE19 human cell line. Viability and mitochondrial status were assessed in order to ...

Background Patients with HIV infection suffer from accelerated aging. In this context, frailty could be a relevant problem that aggravates the quality of life (QoL) and morbi-mortality of these patients. Our objective was to determine the prevalence of frailty and pre-frailty in HIV-infected patients in our cohort as well as their risk factors and QoL. Methods This was a prospective cross-sectional study of HIV-infected people aged ≥18 years on a stable antiretroviral regimen (ART) ≥1 year. Frailty ...

This document studies in some detail the recently developed concept of aspect at the architecture level. This concept introduces a novel kind of modularization and composition in software, and therefore it defines new structures which must be studied by Software Architecture, determining the architectural features of aspects. However the opposite strategy can also be considered; namely, a new conceptual model can be defined, including an architecture-level notion of aspect. This would provide a ...

Methods Blood from six healthy donors was collected to obtain the PRGF. Retinal pigment epithelium (ARPE‐19) cells were exposed to blue light. Then, cells were incubated with PRGF or with control for 24 and 48 hours maintaining exposure to blue light. The cytoprotective effect of PRGF on ARPE cells ...
