The present study investigated the infection by spotted fever rickettsia in an endemic area for Brazilian spotted fever (BSF; caused by Rickettsia rickettsii) in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Human, canine and equine sera samples, and Amblyomma cajennense adult ticks collected in a rural area of Itabira City, Minas Gerais State were tested for rickettsial infection. Through Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA) we demonstrated the presence of antibodies anti-R. rickettsii in 8.2%, 81.3% and 100% of the human, ...

This research aimed to evaluate two concentrations of egg yolk inclusion rates (20 and 2.5%) in the semen extender of goat semen cryopreserved during two seasons of the year. The study was conducted during a light-induced breeding season (Experiment 1), and during the natural breeding season (Experiment 2), in the southern hemisphere. Four ejaculates from each buck (n = 2) were collected in each experiment. After collection, semen was divided, with each sample being diluted in the semen extender – according ...

Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), also called drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome, is a severe adverse drug reaction associated with immunologic abnormalities and viral reactivation. DRESS is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms mimic several other diseases and can appear long after initial drug exposure.1 RegiSCAR, a diagnostic tool developed to diagnose DRESS, is based on evaluating 7 criteria, including fever >38.8°C, acute skin rash, lymphadenopathy, internal ...

Abstract The nanoscale friction between an atomic force microscopy tip and graphene is investigated using friction force microscopy (FFM). During the tip movement, friction forces are observed to increase and then saturate in a highly anisotropic manner. As a result, the friction forces in graphene are highly dependent on the scanning direction: under some conditions, the energy dissipated along the armchair direction can be 80% higher than along the zigzag direction. In comparison, for highly-oriented ...

Oral cancer (OC) is among the ten most common cancers and the seventh most frequent cause of death worldwide. It has been reported that these incidence rates are higher in developed country and these mortality rates are higher in less developed areas. So, the objective of the present study was to analyze the spatial joint distribution and to explore possible associations of the epidemiological aspects with mortality rates due to OC in the Brazil. An exploratory ecological study investigated the global ...

This paper is concerned with the problem of designing robust state derivative feedback control laws in discrete time. The main contribution consists of a method for recasting a continuous time state space model in the form of a discrete time model formulated in terms of the state derivative. Uncertain input delays and parametric uncertainties in polytopic form can be propagated from the original state space representation to the resulting state derivative model. Therefore, robust control techniques ...
