The distribution of atherosclerotic plaque burden in the human coronary arteries is not uniform.Plaques are located mostly in the left anterior descending artery (LAD), then in the right coronary artery (RCA), circumflex branch (LCx) and the left main coronary artery (LM) in a decreasing order of frequency. In the LAD and LCx, plaques tend to cluster within the proximal segment, while in the RCA their distribution is more uniform.Several factors have been involved in this phenomenon, particularly flow ...

(1) Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third most frequent acute cardiovascular condition worldwide. PE response teams (PERTs) have been created to facilitate treatment implementation in PE patients. Here, we report on the 5-year experience of PERT operating in Warsaw, Poland, with regard to the characteristics and outcomes of the consulted patients. (2) Methods: Patients diagnosed with PE between September 2017 and December 2021 were included in the study. Clinical and treatment data were ...

The risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with cancer is currently 12 times higher than in the general population, and even 23 times higher when they receive chemotherapy. The main goal of the pulmonary embolism response team at the Center for the Management of Pulmonary Embolism (PERT‑CELZAT) is to improve prognosis through interdisciplinary care, with a particular focus on patients with contraindications to standard pharmacologic treatment, requiring individual decision‑making, including ...

UNLABELLED Depression is one of the most severe health issues of the modern medicine. One of the most troublesome symptoms of depression is pain. On the other hand, patients suffering from chronic pain problems are also often subjects of mood or anxiety disorders. There are still very little studies in the field of co-occurrence of these two symptoms and therefore there are no universal standards to deal with such cases. AIM The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between symptoms ...

This article considers the law of maritime delimitation as applied by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in the 2012 Bangladesh v. Myanmar case. The dispute concerned the delimitation of the maritime boundary between the two states in the northern part of the Bay of Bengal. The decision demands a particular examination since it was the first delimitation dispute decided by the Tribunal. The article traces how the ITLOS applied and developed the methodology of maritime delimitation. ...

The aim of this study was to compare the course of alcohol withdrawal (AW) syndromes in different age groups of hospitalized patients. Medical records of 892 patients treated for AW in Nowowiejski Hospital in Warsaw, Poland from 1973 to 1987 were reviewed using a structured questionnaire; a further 321 patients were observed on a prospective basis in the years 1990-1999. We compared severity of the symptoms and the course of AW episodes in five age groups: or =60 years old. Although the age groups ...

Background Neointima forming after stent implantation consists of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in 90%. Growth factors TGF-β1, PDGFB, EGF, bFGF and VEGF-A play an important role in VSMC proliferation and migration to the tunica intima after arterial wall injury. The aim of this paper was an analysis of functional polymorphisms in genes encoding TGF-β1, PDGFB, EGF, bFGF and VEGF-A in relation to in-stent restenosis (ISR). A retrospective study compared the course of alcohol withdrawal, including delirium tremens, in women and men hospitalized in the Nowowiejski Hospital in Warsaw from 1973 to 1987. Medical records pertaining to 1179 patients were analyzed; 13.8% of these patients were women and 86.2% were men. The study showed that women began intensive alcohol drinking later than men (p < 0.0001), but the period between the onset of alcohol abuse and the first occurrence of alcohol withdrawal was shorter in women than ...

Purpose To assess the influence of treating developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) with the abduction brace on locomotor development in children. Methods One hundred children treated for DDH served as the study group. There were 80 girls and 20 boys. The children's average age at the beginning of the treatment was 8 weeks. The control group consisted of 100 healthy children with normal hips and without any locomotor system disorders. We have evaluated factors such as the age at which the treatment ...

Abstract The implementation of sustainable development goals in the cosmetics industry is focused primarily on the phase of product design and the formulation of fully functional cosmetics based on raw materials of natural origin. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of using a surfactin-rich digestate extract—a raw material of biotechnological origin—as an ingredient in cleansing cosmetics. A composition was designed, and shower gels based on the digestate extract were formulated. ...
