Nitrites dominate! Nitrites and nitrates are formed on the catalyst surface upon storage of NOx over a model Pt–Ba/Al2O3 NOx storage–reduction catalyst. Nitrites are formed through the oxidation of NO at the Pt–Ba interface (nitrite route), while nitrates are formed upon nitrite oxidation and/or NO2 adsorption following NO oxidation at Pt sites. The nitrite route is the unique pathway responsible for the storage of NOx at low temperatures, but it also dominates at high temperatures.

In this paper, mechanistic aspects involved in the formation of N2O over Pt-BaO/Al2O3 and Rh-BaO/Al2O3 model NOx Storage-Reduction (NSR) catalysts are discussed. The reactivity of both gas-phase NO and stored nitrates was investigated by using H2 and NH3 as reductants. It was found that N2O formation involves the presence of gas-phase NO, since no N2O is observed upon the reduction of nitrates stored over both Pt- and Rh-BaO/Al2O3 catalyst samples. In particular, N2O formation involves the coupling ...

For three-dimensional ABJ(M) theories and $\mathcal N=4$ Chern-Simons-matter quiver theories, we construct two sets of 1/2 BPS Wilson loop operators by applying the Higgsing procedure along independent directions of the moduli space, and choosing different massive modes. For theories whose dual M-theory description is known, we also determine the corresponding spectrum of 1/2 BPS M2-brane solutions. We identify the supercharges in M-theory and field theory, as well as the supercharges preserved by ...

The effect of CO2 and H2O on the NO/O2 storage over a Pt-Ba/Al2O3 LNT catalyst was investigated in the temperature range 150–350 °C by combining FT-IR spectroscopy and microreactor flow experiments. It is found that the presence of water shows negligible effect on the NOx storage at all the temperatures studied. Otherwise, the presence of CO2 inhibits the "nitrite route" (initial formation of surface nitrites and their subsequent evolution to nitrates), whereas the "nitrate route" (involving NO oxidation ...

Operando infrared spectroscopy is often used qualitatively to elucidate reaction mechanisms thanks to the observation of the catalyst under actual operating conditions. Besides, in principle such technique can also provide quantitative information that can be used to describe detailed chemical kinetics (spectrokinetic approach). However, the collected kinetic information are relevant only if the gas fluid dynamics inside the reactor cell is well known and can be precisely described. In fact, to perform ...

Patients with severe aortic stenosis are increasingly treated with transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as a safer option to surgical aortic valve replacement (sAVR). Similar to many other heart diseases, after the specific therapeutic intervention patients are eligible for cardiac rehabilitation (CR) for the purpose of functional recovery. Thus far, CR after both sAVR and TAVI has been used to a limited extent, as shown by the availability of only two meta-analyses including 5 studies and ...

In this work the reactivity of Pt-Rh NOx storage-reduction (NSR) catalysts in the reduction of NOx under lean conditions is investigated. It is found that significant amounts of NOx are stored on both Rh- and Pt-based samples at all the investigated temperatures (in the range 150–350 °C). Mostly chelating nitrites are adsorbed at the lowest investigated temperature (150 °C), while nitrates (both bidentate and ionic) at higher temperatures. However, at all temperatures nitrites prevail at the beginning ...

The chapter is focused on the reduction process operating on a LNT model catalyst, with the aim of shedding light on fundamental aspects related to the mechanisms of stored NOx release, of released NOx reduction and of the formation of the various reduction products. This overview is the result of fundamental systematic studies obtained by means of catalytic tests under nearly isothermal conditions over a model Pt–Ba/Al2O3 catalyst where the attention is focused on the reactivity of the active sites. ...

In the design of the Silicon Vertex Tracker for the high luminosity SuperB collider, very challenging requirements are set by physics and background conditions on its innermost Layer0: small radius (about 1.5 cm), resolution of 10–15μm in both coordinates, low material budget <1%X0, and the ability to withstand a background hit rate of several tens of MHz/cm2. Thanks to an intense R&D program the development of Deep NWell CMOS MAPS (with the ST Microelectronics 130 nm process) has reached a good level ...
