Here we study the spatial dynamics of a coinvading consumer-resource pair. We present a theoretical treatment with extensive empirical data from a long-studied field system in which native herbivorous insects attack a population of lupine plants recolonizing a primary successional landscape created by the 1980 volcanic eruption of Mount St. Helens. Using detailed data on the life history and interaction strengths of the lupine and one of its herbivores, we develop a system of integrodifference equations ...

Abstract Objectives Amyloid‐β 42 (Aβ 42 ) appears central to Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis and is a major component of amyloid plaques. Mean cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Aβ 42 is decreased in dementia of the Alzheimer's type. This decrease may reflect plaques acting as an Aβ 42 “sink,” hindering transport of soluble Aβ 42 between brain and CSF. We investigated this hypothesis. Methods We compared the in vivo brain amyloid load (via positron emission tomography imaging of the amyloid‐binding agent, ...

Abstract HPCT OOLKIT is an integrated suite of tools that supports measurement, analysis, attribution, and presentation of application performance for both sequential and parallel programs. HPCT OOLKIT can pinpoint and quantify scalability bottlenecks in fully optimized parallel programs with a measurement overhead of only a few percent. Recently, new capabilities were added to HPCT OOLKIT for collecting call path profiles for fully optimized codes without any compiler support, pinpointing and quantifying ...

Recent advances in the mathematical theory of invasion dynamics have much to offer to biological control. Here we synthesize several results concerning the spatiotemporal dynamics that occur when a biocontrol agent spreads into a population of an invading pest species. We outline conditions under which specialist and generalist predators can influence the density and rate of spatial spread of the pest, including the rather stringent conditions under which a specialist predator can successfully reverse ...
