To examine the proangiogenic potential of myofibroblasts and mast cells, 2 types of cells present in human aortic valves.Aortic valve stenosis is an active atheroinflammatory disease, characterized by the accumulation of inflammatory cells and the neovascularization of the valves. A total of 85 stenotic valves and 20 control valves were obtained during valve replacement surgery. The results of immunohistochemistry analysis revealed stenotic aortic valves that contained 3 types of neovessels: small ...

The Raman spectra of hydrogen-free amorphous diamond-like films prepared using a mass-separated carbon ion beam and different deposition energies are investigated. The correlation between the numerical parameters of the Raman spectra in the 100 to 2100 cm−1 range and the deposition energy, and consequently the sp3 fraction, is demonstrated.

The first selective D1 dopamine receptor antagonist, SCH23390, has been reported to be active in preclinical tests that predict antipsychotic activity in schizophrenic patients. This is particularly exciting because it has been claimed that this compound is ‘atypical’, in that it has a reduced propensity to induce extrapyramidal side-effects. However, in considering the evidence from preclinical screening tests for antipsychotic activity and extrapyramidal sideeffects of potential neuroleptic drugs, ...

Abstract Iron(II) dichloride complexes bearing a tridentate nitrogen donor ligand were investigated for the homopolymerization of tert ‐butyl acrylate after activation with methylaluminoxane. Two new complexes were synthesized, 2,6‐bis[1‐(cyclohexylimido)ethyl]pyridine iron chloride (FeCl 2 ) and 2,6‐bis[1‐(isopropylimido)ethyl]pyridine FeCl 2 , and the single‐crystal X‐ray structure of the latter one was determined. Turnover frequencies of the catalysts during polymerization ranged from 36 to 241 cycles/ ...

In 2009, the number of foodborne norovirus outbreaks in Finland seemed markedly high, and many outbreaks seemed to be linked to imported frozen raspberries. We reviewed the data regarding all notified foodborne outbreaks in 2009 in Finland in order to assess the magnitude of the problem and to summarize the information on raspberry-linked outbreaks. Between March and August, 13 norovirus outbreaks affecting about 900 people could be linked to imported frozen raspberries. Two raspberry samples corresponding ...

Indium oxide thin films grown at 500°C by atomic layer epitaxy from InCl3 and water were modified by benzoyl fluoride pulses. A broad minimum in resistivity was found when the number of the benzoyl fluoride containing cycles were 6–15% of total. The lowest resistivities were 4–5×10−4 Ωcm. Fluorine contents studied by nuclear resonance broadening method were below 0.02 at% in all the films, which is far too low to explain the measured carrier concentrations 2–3×1020 cm−3. Sustaining urban environmental quality requires effective policy measures that integrate local monitoring and contextualized high-resolution modelling with actionable scenarios. Methodological aspects that are beyond pure technicalities of the model-to-model coupling are ...

In transparent hydrogen-free diamond-like carbon films, two types of interference-induced effects on Raman spectra are observed, amplitude enhancement and spectral modification. The proportion between these Raman components is shown to be an oscillating function of the film thickness. ...
