YBa2Cu3O7−δ thin films were prepared by pulsed laser deposition whereby single-crystalline Au nanoparticles were embedded via a self-assembly process out of an initial Au seed layer. The size of the Au nanoparticles was controlled via the initial Au seed layer thickness. During the growth of the YBa2Cu3O7−δ matrix the nanoparticles are partly lifted on top of the YBa2Cu3O7−δ thin film. The inclusion of nanoparticles thus offers the possibility of shunting thin contamination layers on top of the ...

In this paper, we directly compare the influence of sputtered and chemical vapor deposited TiN liners on the contact resistance of large tungsten filled vias with an aspect ratio of 3:1. Scanning transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry studies revealed that during WF 6 -based tungsten chemical vapor deposition (CVD), fluorine diffuses through a poor physical vapor deposited (PVD) TiN barrier layer and reacts with the ...

Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) overexpression has been linked to tumor progression and poor prognosis. We investigated whether targeting of HIF-1 using chetomin, a disrupter of the interaction of HIF-1 with the transcriptional coactivator p300, influences the radiosensitivity of hypoxic HT 1080 human fibrosarcoma cells.Optimal dose of chetomin was determined by EGFP-HRE gene reporter assay in stably transfected HT 1080 cells. Cells were assayed for expression of the hypoxia-inducible genes carbonic ...

During fast charging of lithium-ion batteries with graphite electrodes, kinetic limitations of the desired intercalation process force the Li ions to deposit metallically on the electrode's surface. The degradation process of lithium deposition (LD) leads to rapid capacity fade and may lead to safety-critical conditions. Hence, a reliable and sensitive method for the operando detection of LD is needed that allows to adjust the charging current and to preserve the lifetime of the battery. Differential ...

In recent years the field of soft robotics has gained a lot of interest both in academia and industry. In contrast to rigid robots, which are potentially very powerful and precise, soft robots are composed of compliant materials like gels or elastomers (Rich et al. (2018); Majidi (2019)). Their exclusive composition of nearly entirely soft materials offers the potential to extend the use of robotics to fields like healthcare (Banerjee et al. (2018); Burgner-Kahrs et al. (2015)) and advance the emerging ...

The dose-dependent effect of extracorporeal shock wave technology (ESWT) was evaluated using a murine skin flap model. Thirty-six Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into six groups (ESWT groups 1 through 5 and a control group). After surgery, shock wave impulses doses were administered: 200 (group 1), 500 (group 2), 1500 (group 3), 2500 (group 4), 5000 (group 5), and 0 (control group 6). Flap viability was evaluated on day 7. Overall, significantly smaller percentages of necrotic zones were observed in groups ...

The effect of extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) therapy on skin flap survival and growth factor expression was investigated in a rat model using epigastric skin flap. Treatment and control groups each contained 20 animals. ESW effectively enhanced epigastric skin flap survival by significant reduction of areas of necrotic zones. At day 7 after the operation, necrotic zones of 4.2% were found in the ESW-treated group compared with 18.3% in the control group ( P < 0.01). Concomitantly, in tissue samples ...

We report on a novel fabrication scheme obtaining metal nanoparticles grown in a crystal high index ambient, i.e. SrTiO3 (STO). Starting from a deposited Au layer ellipsoidal and orientated Au nanoantennas can be prepared and controlled via laser ablation. We discuss the deposition conditions and demonstrate the geometrical properties of the Au nanoantennas embedded in the SrTiO3 by Transmission Electron Micrography (TEM) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) investigations. Transmission line-or mixed conducting network models are a widely used model category for the characterization of porous electrodes in the frequency domain. Their benefits in time domain modeling and simulation are strongly underestimated as the transfer function of the model's impedance cannot be transformed into the time domain analytically. Instead, spatial discretization is required, which leads to a differential-algebraic equation system. This allows for a spatial resolution of the porous electrode ...

The authors present a novel in-situ method of fabricating crystalline gold nanoparticles by self-organization. This nanoparticles are grown and modified in a surrounding thin film matrix using two different host materials (YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ and SrTiO 3 ) prepared by a pulsed laser deposition technique. The crystalline Au nanoparticles are formed out of a gold seed layer whereby the thickness of the initial seed layer influences the particle size and their distribution density. As we will show, using ...

Abstract The integration of dislocation-free Ge nano-islands was realized via selective molecular beam epitaxy on Si nano-tip patterned substrates. The Si-tip wafers feature a rectangular array of nanometer sized Si tips with (001) facet exposed among a SiO 2 matrix. These wafers were fabricated by complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) compatible nanotechnology. Calculations based on nucleation theory predict that the selective growth occurs close to thermodynamic equilibrium, where condensation ...

Model-based fast charging control of Li-ion batteries requires real-time capable models with a spatial resolution to effectively prevent metallic lithium deposition. In a recent publication we showed that a discrete electrochemical modeling approach in form of a transmission line model is able to precisely describe the dynamic behavior of electrodes in time domain. The model is able to simulate and detect local lithium deposition and fulfills the requirement of real-time capability. On this basis, ...

Expression of angiogenic cytokines like vascular endothelial growth factor is enhanced by hypoxia. We tested the hypothesis that decreased oxygen levels up-regulate the angiogenic factor secretoneurin. In vivo, muscle cells of mouse ischemic hind limbs showed increased secretoneurin expression, and inhibition of secretoneurin by a neutralizing antibody impaired the angiogenic response in this ischemia model. In a mouse soft tissue model of hypoxia, secretoneurin was increased in subcutaneous muscle ...

The authors present an easily designed and accomplished technique of one-stage reduction mammaplasty and nipple-areolar reconstruction for patients with large or medium-size breasts and for patients missing the nipple-areolar complex. The technique has low inherent risks, and the symmetry of the breast is maintained to the maximum. In addition to the cosmetic improvement, using this technique benefits the patient further by avoiding postoperative corrections or adjustments.

Introduction: Positive pressure ventilation influences hemodynamics and impairs renal function. The effects of inverse ratio ventilation (IRV) on hormonal response and renal function need to be investigated because this represents a highly invasive form of positive pressure ventilation. Secretoneurin (SN) represents a sensory, inflammatory neuropeptide which was recently demonstrated to act as an angiogenic and vasculogenic cytokine in vitro and in vivo. The present study was conducted to test the hypothesis that SN may be implicated in reparative angiogenesis. Furthermore, we challenged the healing potential of SN applied as a newly generated SN gene therapy vector in the setting of limb ischemia.
