We investigate the LHC and Higgs Factory prospects for measuring the CP phase in the Higgs-tau-tau coupling. Currently this phase can be anywhere between 0 degrees (CP even) and 90 degrees (CP odd). A new, ideal observable is identified from an analytic calculation for the $\tau^\pm \to \rho^\pm\nu \to \pi^\pm \pi^0 \nu$ channel. It is demonstrated to have promising sensitivity at the LHC and superior sensitivity at the ILC compared to previous proposals. Our observable requires the reconstruction of the ...

A bstract The tree-level partonic angular distribution of Standard Model Wγ production possesses a feature known as the Radiation Amplitude Zero (RAZ) where destructive interference causes the cross section to vanish. At the proton level the exact cancellation disappears, however, one can find a dip in the central region of the angular distributions, here called the Radiation Valley (RV). In this paper, we show how the sensitivity for W (ℓ v ) γ resonances can be significantly improved if one focuses ...

We consider the physics and collider phenomenology of quirks that transform nontrivially under QCD color, $SU(2{)}_{W}$ as well as an $SU(N{)}_{ic}$ infracolor group. Our main motivation is to show that the recent $Wjj$ excess observed by CDF naturally arises in quirky models. The basic pattern is that several different quirky states can be produced, some of which $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decay during or after spin-down, leaving the lightest electrically-neutral quirks to hadronize into a meson that subsequently ...

Recent recommendations for the treatment of chronic pain patients during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic suggest using telemedicine instead of in-person consultations. Knowing whether patients with chronic pain are receptive to the use of telemedicine during a pandemic might improve tailored care. The aims of the present study were to assess patients' acceptance of telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic in Switzerland and to examine the correlation of acceptance with pain intensity ...

Although the interrupting effect of chronic pain on voluntary-directed attention is well-documented, research on the impact of chronic pain on involuntary-directed attention remains incomplete. This study aimed to investigate the influence of chronic pain on involuntary as well as voluntary allocation of attention as, respectively, indexed by the P3a and P3b components in the event-related potential derived from the electroencephalogram. Both involuntary and voluntary captures of attention were ...

The nature of dark matter and properties of neutrinos are among the most pressing issues in contemporary particle physics. The dual-phase xenon time-projection chamber is the leading technology to cover the available parameter space for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), while featuring extensive sensitivity to many alternative dark matter candidates. These detectors can also study neutrinos through neutrinoless double-beta decay and through a variety of astrophysical sources. A next-generation ...

A quantitative analysis of polarization phenomena in photoconducting insulators is presented for the case in which a strip of the sample is illuminated far from the electrodes. It is shown that if the drift length of the photo-excited carriers is small compared with the dimensions of the dark and illuminated regions, the photocurrent decays exponentially during both the buildup and release of polarization. The decay constant is essentially independent of the characteristics of the contacts and the ...

MAGIS-100 is a next-generation quantum sensor under construction at Fermilab that aims to explore fundamental physics with atom interferometry over a 100-meter baseline. This novel detector will search for ultralight dark matter, test quantum mechanics in new regimes, and serve as a technology pathfinder for future gravitational wave detectors in a previously unexplored frequency band. It combines techniques demonstrated in state-of-the-art 10-meter-scale atom interferometers with the latest technological ...

Abstract Background Attentional deficits in patients with chronic pain are common and well studied. Yet, few studies have examined the effects of chronic pain on more complex cognitive abilities that rely on well‐functioning attentional systems. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many health care providers to make changes in their treatment, with telemedicine being expanded on a large scale. An earlier study investigated the acceptance of telephone calls but did not record satisfaction with treatment or patients' preferences. This warranted a follow-up study to investigate acceptance, satisfaction, and preferences regarding telemedicine, comprising of phone consultations, among health care recipients.

Social support is a multidimensional construct encompassing emotional support as well as pain-focused care and attention, also known as solicitous support. One the one hand, social support is widely believed to positively influence pain symptoms, their intensity, and the ability to cope and influence pain. On the other hand, social support can be negative if it conflicts with the patient's needs or even causes discomfort. How different types of social support influence pain is not very well understood ...
