Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease which many factors are involved and is developing considerably worldwide. Increasing aging population and obesity in the societies has improved the scale of the type 2 diabetes significantly. The aim of this study was to determine the direct medical costs of outpatient cares of diabetes in Iran. Methods: Active patients of Isfahan Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Center (IEMRC) by the end of March 2011 were employed for data extraction. Type ...

Abstract The effect of soybean meal (SBM) replacement with fermented SBM (FSBM) on ruminal fermentation and bacterial abundance in Holstein calves was investigated in this study. Thirty nine calves were randomized to: (1) control: 27% SBM + 0% FSBM (FSBM0, n = 13); (2) 18% SBM + 9% FSBM (FSBM9, n = 13); and (3) 13.5% SBM + 13.5% FSBM (FSBM13, n = 13). SBM contained a greater amount of large peptides containing 3 to 10 amino acids (AAs), while FSBM had a greater amount of ammonia nitrogen (NH 3 –N), free AAs, and small ...

Summary Healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) following open heart surgery is not only a major cause of mortality and morbidity, but also carries higher costs. There are limited data on the additional costs due to HCAI in non-western countries. To estimate the direct cost of the four most common HCAIs in an Iranian sample, we studied 1191 patients admitted for elective open heart surgery. HCAIs were defined using the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance criteria (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ...

Abstract Background Oral mucositis (OM) is one of the main problems in almost all patients undergoing head and neck radiotherapy (RT). Owning to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin, the effect of both oral and topical formulations of curcumin was assessed on radiation-induced OM (ROM) in this study. Methods The safety and efficacy of curcumin mouthwash 0.1% (w/v) and curcumin-nanocapsule were evaluated in ameliorating severity and pain/burning associated with OM during RT. The ...

Follicular fluid has been found as a possible source of metabolic predictors for oocyte competence, and it is conveniently accessible during ovum pick-up (OPU). We used the OPU procedure to recover oocytes from 41 Holstein heifers for in vitro embryo production in this study. Follicular fluid was collected during OPU in order to establish a link between follicular amino acids and blastocyst formation. Each heifer's oocytes were collected, matured in vitro for 24 h and fertilized separately. The heifers ...

Pooled follicular fluid is easily accessible during ovum pick-up (OPU) and can be a potential source of non-invasive biochemical predictors for oocyte competence. Using the OPU procedure, oocytes recovered from a total of 60 Holstein heifers were used in in vitro embryo production. Pooled follicular fluid was collected at the time of OPU in order to establish a relationship between follicular biochemical components and the formation of blastocyst. The oocytes from each heifer were pooled together, ...

The development of reliable and ecofriendly approaches for the production of nanomaterials is a significant aspect of nanotechnology nowadays. One of the most important methods, which shows enormous potential, is based on the green synthesis of nanoparticles using plant extract. In this paper, we aimed to develop a rapid, environmentally friendly process for the synthesis silver nanoparticles using aqueous extract of sumac. The bioactive compounds of sumac extract seem to play a role in the synthesis ...

Background Worldwide, healthcare workers (HCWs) show different levels of response to hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine. One of the factors associated with vaccine unresponsiveness may be the existence of current or past HBV infection.Regardless of the presence of HBsAg (overt infection), occult HBV infection (OBI, defined as presence of HBV DNA in the absence of HBsAg) might also account for some non-or hypo-response cases. Methods Sera from 120 HBsAg-negative HCWs with low and moderate levels of anti-HBs, < ...

The objective of this study was to evaluate whether wheat factory sewage (WFS) could partially replace barley grain in the diet of dairy cows without adversely affecting dry matter intake (DMI), ruminal fermentation, digestibility and milk production of dairy cows. Eight multiparous (60 ± 3 days-in-milk) Holstein dairy cows were used in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design experiment with four 21-d periods. The four diets (treatment) differed by partially substituting WFS for barley grain at the rate ...

Abstract The limited availability of a healthy donor cornea and the incidence of allograft failure led researchers to seek other corneal substitutes via tissue engineering. Exploring the trend of clinical trials of the cornea with the vision of tissue engineering provides an opportunity to reveal future potential corneal substitutes. The results of this clinical trial are beneficial for future study designs to overcome the limitations of current therapeutic approaches. In this study, registered ...

For the first time, a novel simple label-free electrochemical immunosensor was fabricated for sensitive detection of the coat protein of beet necrotic yellow vein virus (CP-BNYVV) as the causal agent of Rhizomania disease in sugar beet. To boost the amplification of the electrochemical signal, gold nanoparticles-reduced graphene oxide (AuNPs-rGO) nanocomposite was employed to modify the glassy carbon electrode. Anti-BNYVV polyclonal was immobilized onto a modified electrode by applying a thiol linker ...
