The essay illustrates Quaini’s inputs to the construction and the theoretical/operational development of the territorialist school and, later on, of the Territorialist Society, of which he was one of the major founders and guarantors. In his explication of concepts like place, territory, landscape, place awareness, Quaini anticipates the need for a multidisciplinary territorialist lexicon. Taking from Herodote Italia the focus on the fundamental integration of historical and spatial knowledge, he ...

In the numerical simulations of incompressible fluids, the occurrence of incoming flows through outlet boundaries where Neumann conditions are prescribed may introduce the numerical instability known as the backflow instability. This backflow instability is related to the nonlinear convective term and is often challenging the numerical simulation of the blood flow in large vessels. In fact, the alternation of systole and diastole induces backflows at the outlets, which are usually Neumann boundaries ...

The results of combined surgical resection of brain metastasis and primary lung cancer from January 1976 to April 1986 were evaluated. In all cases the brain metastasis was single and synchronous and was resected first. There were 20 men and one woman, with an average age of 53 years. All patients initially had neurologic symptoms related to an intracranial mass. In 19 patients the primary lung cancer was roentgenologically visible, but in two the lesion was recognizable only by bronchoscopy. There ...

In this paper we discuss how Massimo Quaini, since the end of the 1960’s, dialogued (or did not) with the sister disciplines of historical geopgraphy: archaeology and social history. We reflect on the experimental path of Quaini “towards a new geographicity” and on the numerous meetings, separations, parallel and divergent routes which had place along it; focusing on Massimo’s experiences and acquaintances in Genoa, those of ...

Immunotherapy combinations with tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) had significantly improved outcomes of patients with mRCC. Predictive and prognostic factors are crucial to improve patients' counseling and management.
