In this paper, two semi-analytical performance prediction methods are proposed and compared for multiuser MIMO transmission over block-fading multipath channels and iterative MMSE successive interference cancellation based joint decoding. In the first method, we develop a completely analytical parameterisation of the whole turbo receiver up to the users' channel decoders. The method which follows the classical framework of extrinsic information transfer charts tracks the evolution of the average ...

The evolution toward 5G mobile networks will be characterized by an increasing number of wireless devices, increasing device and service complexity, and the requirement to access mobile services ubiquitously. Two key enablers will allow the realization of the vision of 5G: very dense deployments and centralized processing. This article discusses the challenges and requirements in the design of 5G mobile networks based on these two key enablers. It discusses how cloud technologies and flexible functionality ...

Cloud computing draws significant attention in the information technology (IT) community as it provides ubiquitous on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources with minimum management effort. It gains also more impact on the communication technology (CT) community and is currently discussed as an enabler for flexible, cost-efficient and more powerful mobile network implementations. Although centralized baseband pools are already investigated for the radio access network (RAN) ...

This paper aims to analyze the behavior of DC bipolar corona discharge in a two wires-to-plane configuration under variable humid air conditions. A circular biased probe was adapted to the plane and used to measure the ground-plane current density and electric field during the bipolar corona. The values of the electric field and the current density at the plane surface were the maximum beneath the two corona wires which decreased when moving away from them. The current-voltage characteristics followed ...

This paper aims to analyse the behavior of dc corona discharge in wire-to-plane electrostatic precipitators (ESP) depending on the pressure. Current-voltage curves are analyzed particularly. Experimental results show that discharge current is strongly affected by the pressure for a given atmospheric condition. Changing the values pressure does not only changes the property of the gas but also affects the corona onset conditions and ion mobility. The finite-element method is used to solve Poisson' ...

This paper deals with the DC monopolar corona discharge in wire-to-plane geometry under variable humid air conditions. The classical formulas of Townsend commonly used for the current–voltage characteristics were used to determine the various corona parameters for the both polarities of the corona discharge. A circular biased probe has been adapted to the plane and is used to measure the ground plane current density and electric field during the monopolar corona discharge. A new approach to the ...

A boundary of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) can be used in many fields, for example, to monitor a frontier or a secure place of strategic sensitive sites like oil fields or frontiers of a country. This situation is modeled as the problem of finding a polygon hull in a connected Euclidean graph, which represents a minimal set of connected boundary nodes. In this paper we propose a new algorithm called D-LPCN (Distributed Least Polar-angle Connected Node) which represents the distributed version of ...

This work proposes a new investigation, which deals with the potentiality of the reuse of saturated activated carbon (SAC), as an additive into cementitious materials. According to recent studies, the addition of a small amount of activated carbon can considerably increase the adsorption of harmful gases; which limits environmental pollution. However, taking into consideration the high porosity of activated carbon, which gives a large specific area, this solution may present certain disadvantages ...

Femoral stem modularity in hip replacement was first developed to connect a ceramic head to the stem, then extended to metal heads using the Morse taper principle. Is it a good thing, or a necessary evil? It contributes to improving lower limb length and lateralization setting, at the cost of fairly rare complications such as dissociation and fretting corrosion, which can exceptionally lead to ARMD (Adverse Reaction to Metal Debris). Modular necks were later recommended, with a double Morse taper: ...

In France and in the US, predictions for 2030 include an increased number of total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) procedures together with an overall trend towards shorter hospital stays. Predictors of hospital length of stay (LOS) include the day of surgery, discharge destination, and patient comorbidities. Available data are conflicting, however, and to our knowledge predictors of LOS after THA or TKA have not been evaluated in France. Improved knowledge of these predictors ...

In the context of a demand for "preservative-free" food products, biopreservation appears as a promising alternative to either replace or reduce the use of chemical preservatives. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antifungal activity of a collection of lactic acid bacteria (n = 194), and then to evaluate the applicability and efficacy of selected ones used as bioprotective cultures against mold spoilers in dairy and bakery products. First, lactic acid bacteria were isolated from various ...
