Abstract To analyze the degree and pattern of influence of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) on the Bosniak classification system for complex renal cystic mass as compared with conventional ultrasonography (US). One hundred two consecutive patients with complex renal cystic masses were retrospectively analyzed. The diagnostic performance of the Conventional US and CEUS were evaluated separately for malignant and benign lesions. The diagnostic concordance rates were calculated according to pathologic ...

Abstract Cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) eliminates abnormal cells through target recognition‐triggered intracellular toxin delivery. Chimeric antigen receptor T‐cell improves cancer cell recognition of CTL, but its effectiveness and safety in solid tumor treatment are still hampered by poor tumor infiltration, suppressive tumor microenvironment, and severe on‐target off‐tumor toxicity. Given the functionality and challenges of CTL in cancer therapy, herein, a CTL‐inspired nanovesicle (MPV) with a cell ...

Air pollution has been classified as carcinogenic to humans. However, to date little is known about the relevance for cancers of the stomach and upper aerodigestive tract (UADT). We investigated the association of long‐term exposure to ambient air pollution with incidence of gastric and UADT cancer in 11 European cohorts. Air pollution exposure was assigned by land‐use regression models for particulate matter (PM) below 10 µm (PM 10 ), below 2.5 µm (PM 2.5 ), between 2.5 and 10 µm (PM coarse ), PM 2.5 absorbance ...

Previous analysis from the large European multicentre ESCAPE study showed an association of ambient particulate matter <2.5 μm (PM2.5) air pollution exposure at residence with the incidence of gastric cancer. It is unclear which components of PM are most relevant for gastric and also upper aerodigestive tract (UADT) cancer and some of them may not be strongly correlated with PM mass. We evaluated the association between long-term exposure to elemental components of PM2.5 and PM10 and gastric and UADT ...

Vanillin is a natural compound endowed with antioxidant and anti-mutagenic properties. We previously identified the vanillin derivative VND3207 with strong radio-protective and antioxidant effects and found that VND3207 confers survival benefit and protection against radiation-induced intestinal injury (RIII) in mice. We also observed that VND3207 treatment enhanced the expression level of the catalytic subunit of the DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PKcs) in human lymphoblastoid cells with or without ...

Two conjugated polymers (PBDT86-TQ and PBDT88-TQ) with different side chains, but with the same polymer backbone, have been prepared for polymer solar cells. The side chains in the two polymers induced different steric hindrance. PBDT86-TQ showed the 0-0 absorption peak at ∼740 nm, and it was blue-shifted to ∼660 nm for PBDT88-TQ as a result of strong steric hindrance from two dioctyl chains. Further, the HOMO energy levels of PBDT86-TQ (−5.10 eV) and PBDT88-TQ (−5.54 eV) also showed a large difference. ...

Background Platelet activation is central to the pathogenesis of acute coronary syndromes. Surface expression of P ‐selectin on activated platelets induces formation of platelet–monocyte aggregates and promotes vascular inflammation and thrombosis. P ‐selectin antagonism may represent a novel therapeutic strategy in vascular disease. We aimed to investigate the effects of the novel P ‐selectin antagonist PSI ‐697 on platelet–monocyte aggregate formation in humans. Methods and Results In a double‐blind, ...

An accurate model of gas desorption and diffusion is the necessary prerequisite to accurately predict gas transfer and evaluation of gas content in the coal. A new modified shrinking core model was proposed and modified based on the shrinking core model and taking into account the time-depend diffusivity. It was to predict the kinetic process of gas desorption and diffusion including three processes: (1) desorption on the undesorbed core surface, (2) diffusion through the desorbed layer, and (3) diffusion ...

Background: Right ventricular longitudinal strain of free wall (RV FWLS) assessed by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) is recognized as an independent predictor of poor prognosis in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). However, the prognostic implications of three-dimensional STE (3D-STE) parameters in patients with HFpEF have not been well-established. The purpose of our study was to determine whether 3D-STE parameters were the more powerful ...

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) remain a common and major problem in healthcare. Severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCARs), such as Stevens–Johnson syndrome (SJS)/toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) with mortality rate ranges from 10% to more than 30%, can be life threatening. A number of recent studies demonstrated that ADRs possess strong genetic predisposition. ADRs induced by several drugs have been shown to have significant associations with specific alleles of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes. ...

A 3-D numerical model coupling gas-crossover phenomena for high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (HT-PEMFC) is developed to investigate the water vapor behavior. After model validation, sensitivity analysis of the water vapor diffusion coefficient is carried out, which does not further affect the water vapor behavior, when the order of magnitude of diffusion coefficient is higher than 10−5m2/s. It is also found that the water vapor transport flux decreases with increasing membrane thickness. ...

Abstract Genome editing technologies hold tremendous potential in biomedical research and drug development. Therefore, it is imperative to discover gene editing tools with superior cutting efficiency, good fidelity, and fewer genomic restrictions. Here, we report a CRISPR/Cas9 from Faecalibaculum rodentium , which is characterized by a simple PAM (5′-NNTA-3′) and a guide RNA length of 21–22 bp. We find that FrCas9 could achieve comparable efficiency and specificity to SpCas9. Interestingly, the PAM ...

The ability to tailor the pore structure of metal–organic framework (MOF) membranes enables synthesis of new or modified MOF membranes with enhanced separation characteristics. This work employs a modified version of solvent-assisted ligand exchange, termed membrane surface ligand exchange (MSLE), to modify the pore structure of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) membranes. Compared to lithium-oxygen batteries, sodium-oxygen (Na-O2) batteries exhibit a number of advantages: extremely low cost, low charging overpotential, and stability under nitrogen. However, accumulation of insoluble discharge products and failure of catalysts often result in poor performance of Na-O2 batteries and limit their cycling life. In this work, electrochemical reactions of Na-O2 batteries were directly investigated in situ by assembling a solid-state Na-O2 nanobattery in an aberration-corrected ...
