A factor that directly impacts the lifespan of a power transformer is the hot-spot temperature, and its monitoring is vital to prevent faults, reduce costs, keep the safety, and provide a reliable service to consumers. In this paper, we propose two forecasting models to predict the hot-spot temperature of power transformers. The first is the implementation of Set-Membership in the evolving Participatory Learning with Kernel Recursive Least Squares. And the second is a combination of the evolving ...

We analyzed the discriminatory capacity of anthropometric indicators for body fat in children and adolescents. This systematic review and meta-analysis included cross-sectional and clinical studies comprising children and adolescents aged 2–19 y that tested the discriminatory value for body fat measured by anthropometric methods or indexes generated by anthropometric variables compared with precision methods in the diagnosis of body fat [dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), computed tomography, ...

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), originally classified as toxic molecules, have attracted increasing interest given their actions in cell signaling. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), the major ROS produced by cells, acts as a second messenger to modify redox-sensitive proteins or lipids. After caudal fin amputation, tight spatiotemporal regulation of ROS is required first for wound healing and later to initiate the regenerative program. However, the mechanisms carrying out this sustained ROS production and ...

Compare the scores resulting from the Comfort-B scale with the bispectral index in children in an intensive care unit.Eleven children between the ages of 1 month and 16 years requiring mechanical ventilation and sedation were simultaneously classified based on the bispectral index and the Comfort-B scale. Their behavior was recorded using digital photography, and the record was later evaluated by three independent evaluators. Agreement tests (Bland-Altman and Kappa) were then performed. The correlation ...

Root-knot nematodes (RKN) are obligate parasite species of the genus Meloidogyne that cause great losses in Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) plantations. Identification of resistant genotypes would facilitate the improvement of coffee varieties aiming at an environmental friendly and costless nematode control. In this work, the C. arabica genotype ‘UFV 408-28’ was found to be resistant to the most destructive RKN species M. incognita. Pathogenicity assays indicated that the highly aggressive populations ...

Purpose Malignancy-related hypercalcemia (MRH) is associated with a dismal prognosis. The widespread use of bisphosphonates (BPs), availability of more effective drugs in cancer treatment, and improvement in supportive care might have attenuated its impact. Patients and Methods To assess overall survival (OS) of patients with MRH in a contemporary setting, we conducted a retrospective analysis of 306 patients with solid cancer hospitalized for symptomatic hypercalcemia. In the present work, the oxidation stability of diesel, rapeseed (RME), and soybean (SME) fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) and a blend of diesel with 10% (v/v) RME (B10–RME) was studied. Fuel samples were aged in the PetroOxy test device from 383 to 423 K at 7 bar. Experiments were conducted in oxygen excess, and the global kinetic constants were determined. The global kinetic constants for diesel, B10–RME, and RME at 383 K were 7.92 × 10–6, 2.78 × 10–5, and 8.87 × 10–5 s–1, respectively. The oxidation products ...

The cement industry is the second-largest single industrial emitter in the world and therefore has an important role to play in reducing the intensity of its carbon emissions: participation of the sector is important to contribute to the goal of the Paris Climate Change Agreement to limit global warming. Scorpion envenomation is a public health problem in Brazil, with most severe cases occuring in children under the age of 5 years (0.6% lethality). In fact, the toxic fractions of the Tityus serrulatus scorpion venom (TSSV) have greater permeability across the BBB of weanling rats when compared to adults. Although EEG alterations have been reported in up to 75% of pediatric severe cases, the role of the CNS in envenomation morbidity is still in debate. Our working hypothesis is that the neural substrates ...

The Paleoproterozoic structural evolution of the Rio Itapicuru greenstone belt (RIGB, Bahia, Brazil) involves two tectonic events of different natures, both associated with magmatism. D1 was coeval with the emplacement of rare 2130 Ma granodioritic plutons. The D2 tectonic event was characterized by left-lateral strike-slip tectonics, developed ...

The genus Helicoverpa (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) includes phytophagous and polyphagous agricultural insect pests. In the Americas, a native pest, Helicoverpa zea (Boddie), and an invasive pest, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner), are causing severe damage in vegetable and agronomic crops. The population structure of both species in South America is poorly understood, and the phylogenetic relatedness of H. armigera and H. zea suggests natural interspecific gene flow between these species. Abstract BACKGROUND Sesame and flaxseed oils, which are rich in essential n ‐6 and n ‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, are widely consumed. We have determined the optical behavior with respect to the quality and identity of cold‐pressed sesame and flaxseed oils. The effects of these oils and their combinations on metabolic parameters in animal models were also measured. RESULTS Flaxseed oil emitted carotenoid fluorescence (500–650 nm), although it was more unstable than sesame oil, which had a larger ...

A new photothermal open-ended cell particularly adapted for in vivo spectroscopic measurements is described. The detector is a transparent LiNbO3 crystal or a crystalline quartz transducer in direct contact with the sample. The cell can be attached to an optical fiber cable for light excitation. The cell has a high signal-to-noise ratio and its frequency variation is proportional to ω−1.16. In vivo and in vitro measurements performed on green leaf and carbon black samples are presented.
