We studied diaphragmatic and abdominal muscle activity immediately and 16 h after laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LAPC). Tidal volumes (sVT), partitioning of VT between the rib cage and the abdomen, and esophageal, gastric, and transdiaphragmatic pressures were recorded for 5 min every 15 min up to 90 min after the end of anesthesia in 10 young patients submitted to an elective LAPC. All had chest radiographs in full inspiration and expiration as well as lung function tests (LFTs) before and 16 h after ...

ABSTRACT Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was modified by grafting onto its surface ferulic acid, methacryloyl chloride and oleoyl chloride. The efficacy of the chemical modification was confirmed by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In addition, the size distribution of the cellulosic particles was investigated by optical microscopy and laser granulometry and its hydrophobicity was evaluated using a contact angle method. Finally, to investigate the affinity of modified MCC with a nonpolar polymer ...

The synthesis, characterization, photophysical and redox properties of a dinuclear complex Zn 2 (AMOX) 4 (AMOX = 4‐bromo‐ N , N′ ‐diphenylbenzamidinate N ‐oxide) are highlighted. This compound is a first example of a novel class of aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) materials. Noticeably, solution‐processed white‐green organic light‐emitting diodes were fabricated using this complex as dopant in a co‐host matrix in the emissive layer. A luminance efficiency and power efficiency as high as 1.12 cd/A and 0. ...

Many conditions are known to cause a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fistula; one of them is lumbar puncture for contrast myelography. Reported here is the case of a man who underwent contrast myelography at the L2-L3 level and who presented with postural headaches and lumbalgia with radiation to the legs three weeks after the procedure. Tc-99m albumin isotopic cisternography at the L5-S1 level was performed and clearly depicted a functional CSF leak through the dura at the L2-L3 level and CSF suffusion ...

In these 47 patients, combined umbilicoportal, hepatic vein, and superior mesenteric artery catheterization was performed. The Kupffer cell uptake of 125Iodinated albumin microaggregates was measured during a single passage through the liver, and this parameter was used as an index of the functional ...

Eight distinct metallogenic epochs have been identified within the southern Quebec Appalachians as follows:1. Precambrian-Early Cambrian intracontinental rifting of Laurentia is related to the formation of black sand paleoplacer, volcanic red-bed copper, and strata-bound Cu and Zn deposits in dolomite marble and metagraywacke.2. The Cambro-Ordovician opening of the Iapetus ocean (proto-Atlantic) resulted in the formation of uraniferous phosphorite, strata-bound Zn-Cu-Ba deposits, and magmatic Ni- ...

The Eastern Metals deposit, located in the southern Quebec Appalachians, occurs at the contact of a slice of ultramafic rock enclosed within ophiolitic melange sediments of Cambro-Ordovician age that are slightly metamorphosed to lower greenschist facies. Disseminated to massive sulfides are hosted by intensely carbonatized and silicified rocks at the sheared contacts between serpentinite and graphitic slate. The deposit comprises two mineralized zones, the Ni-Zn North zone and the Cu-Ni-Zn-Co-Au ...

Four new petrogenetic and metallogenic models are proposed herein to explain the formation of important mineral deposits in the Grenville Province, providing a framework from which to reappraise Grenvillian mineral potential. Recognition of a high-pressure metamorphic belt within the Grenville Province suggests a potential for eclogite-hosted rutile deposits, an important and much-sought commodity. A recently developed Norwegian model proposes that anorthosite genesis occurred through lower crust ...

Microbial translocation from the gut to systemic circulation contributes to immune activation during human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and is usually assessed by measuring plasma levels of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Fungal colonization in the gut increases during HIV-infection and people living with HIV (PLWH) have increased plasma levels of fungal polysaccharide (1→3)-β-D-Glucan (βDG). We assessed the contribution of circulating DG to systemic immune activation in PLWH.Cross-sectional ...

Classical fault analysis methods for power systems are based on symmetrical components to represent various fault configurations. The complete electrical network is decomposed using a complex transformation matrix into decoupled zero, positive and negative sequence circuits. This paper presents an extension of the above methodology using discretized RLC elements for the computation of the ...

Prevalence, symptoms, and treatment of depression suggest that major depressive disorders (MDD) present sex differences. Social stress-induced neurovascular pathology is associated with depressive symptoms in male mice; however, this association is unclear in females. Targeted disruption of the BBB in the female prefrontal cortex (PFC) induces ...
