The complex [RhCl(κ3P,O,P-{xant(PiPr2)2})] (1; xant(PiPr2)2 = 9,9-dimethyl-4,5-bis(diisopropylphosphino)xanthene) activates C(sp3)–Cl bonds of mono- and dichloroalkanes and catalyzes the dehalogenation of chloroalkanes and the homocoupling of benzyl chloride. Complex 1 reacts with chlorocyclohexane to give [RhHCl2(κ3P,O,P-{xant(PiPr2)2})] (2) and cyclohexene and promotes the dehalogenation of the chlorocycloalkane to cyclohexane using 2-propanol solutions of sodium formate as the reducing agent. The oxidative ...

The GBD estimates for Spain in 2016 and recent trends in mortality and morbidity from 2006 to 2016 were recently published. According to these estimates, chronic kidney disease was the 8th cause of death in Spain in 2016. The present work introduces a new type of improved catalysts based on sepiolite-carbon nanocomposites anchoring Pd nanoparticles. The nanocomposites are prepared by assembly in aqueous media of graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) and the nanofibrous sepiolite under a sonomechanical treatment. The methodology allows the co-assembly of other nanomaterials such as multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and Pd nanoparticles, these last ones in situ generated from PdCl2 and further treatment with NaBH4. The presence ...

Microporous carbon materials having a negligible contribution of mesopores have been synthesised by cyclic oxidation/desorption of grape seeds char using air, ozone and HNO3 as oxidant agents. By adequate selection of the operating conditions (oxidation procedure and number of cycles), it is possible to tune the volume and pore size distribution (PSD) of carbon materials and therefore determine the influence of carbon textural properties on the electrochemical behaviour of carbon–carbon symmetric ...

Tree architecture has important consequences for tree performance as it determines resource capture, mechanical stability and dominance over competitors. We analyzed architectural relationships between stem and crown dimensions for 13 dominant Iberian canopy tree species belonging to the Pinaceae (six Pinus species) and Fagaceae (six Quercus species and Fagus sylvatica) and related these architectural traits to wood density, shade tolerance and climatic factors. Fagaceae had, compared with Pinaceae, ...

Interleukin (IL)-2/IL-2R signalling promotes proliferation and survival of activated T cells and has an essential non-redundant role in the production of regulatory T cells. Associations with different autoimmune diseases of polymorphisms in a linkage disequilibrium block in which the IL2/IL21 genes map (4q27), and also in genes encoding the IL2RA and IL2RB subunits (located in 10p15 and 22q13, respectively), were identified through genome-wide studies. Polymorphisms in these three genes were studied ...

Recent studies suggest that the endocannabinoid system modulates feeding. Despite the existence of central mechanisms for the regulation of food intake by endocannabinoids, evidence indicates that peripheral mechanisms may also exist. To test this hypothesis, we investigated (1) the effects of feeding on intestinal anandamide accumulation; (2) the effects of central (intracerebroventricular) and peripheral (intraperitoneal) administration of the endocannabinoid agonist anandamide, the synthetic cannabinoid ...

Here we present the real time response of a recently reported optical transducer, a periodic array of resonant nanopillars (R-NP). The signal of the sensor was obtained with a common spectrophotometer by measuring light transmission through the R-NP surface.
