Garden waste was composted over a number of weeks in a windrow, and turned regularly to maintain aerobic conditions. The physical parameters of the composting material were measured, and at 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks of processing samples were removed and incorporated into growth media. Ryegrass was grown over 1 year and harvested regularly for measurement of dry matter and N content. In addition, compost samples were removed and the microfauna and total microbial biomass quantified. It was shown that ...

Hereditary hearing loss (HHL) is an extremely heterogeneous disorder with autosomal dominant, recessive, and X-linked forms. Here, we described an Italian pedigree affected by HHL but also prostate hyperplasia and increased ratio of the free/total PSA levels, with the unusual and extremely rare Y-linked pattern of inheritance. Using exome sequencing we found a missense variant (r.206A>T leading to p.Asp69Val) in the TBL1Y gene. TBL1Y is homologous of TBL1X, whose partial deletion has described to ...

Atmosphere is one of the most important noise sources for ground-based cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments. By increasing optical loading on the detectors, it amplifies their effective noise, while its fluctuations introduce spatial and temporal correlations between detected signals. We present a physically motivated 3d-model of the atmosphere total intensity emission in the millimeter and sub-millimeter wavelengths. We derive a new analytical estimate for the correlation between detectors ...

The tyrosine kinase receptor vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) is a key regulator of angiogenesis. Here we show that VEGFR2 is acetylated in endothelial cells both at four lysine residues forming a dense cluster in the kinase insert domain and at a single lysine located in the receptor activation loop. These modifications are under dynamic control of the acetyltransferase p300 and two deacetylases HDAC5 and HDAC6. We demonstrate that VEGFR2 acetylation essentially regulates receptor ...

Distortion of the cosmic microwave background by matter in the universe, known as gravitational lensing, is observed by the POLARBEAR collaboration. The technique used here would allow for all gravitating matter to be mapped, and provide important corrections for the detection of primordial gravitational waves in the cosmic microwave background.

We present the design and characterization of the POLARBEAR experiment. POLARBEAR will measure the polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) on angular scales ranging from the experiment's 3.5 arcminute beam size to several degrees. The experiment utilizes a unique focal plane of 1,274 antenna-coupled, polarization sensitive TES bolometers cooled to 250 milliKelvin. Employing this focal plane along with stringent control over systematic errors, POLARBEAR has the sensitivity to detect ...

The genus Burkholderia includes over 60 species isolated from a wide range of environmental niches and can be tentatively divided into two major species clusters. The first cluster includes pathogens such as Burkholderia glumae, B. pseudomallei, and B. mallei and 17 well-studied species of the Burkholderia cepacia complex. The other recently established cluster comprises at least 29 nonpathogenic species, which in most cases have been found to be associated with plants. It was previously established ...

POLARBEAR is a ground‐based experiment to measure polarization anisotropy in the Cosmic Microwave Background. It is designed to have a combination of sensitivity, foreground mitigation, and rejection of systematic errors to search for the B‐mode signature of Inflationary gravity waves over much of the parameter range suggested by simple power‐law Inflation models. POLARBEAR is designed to detect a gravitational‐wave signature with a tensor‐to‐scalar ratio r as low as 0.025 (95% confidence). POLARBEAR ...

We present an overview of the design and development of the POLARBEAR-2 experiment. The POLARBEAR-2 experiment is a cosmic microwave background polarimetry experiment, which aims to characterize the small angular scale B-mode signal due to gravitational lensing and search for the large angular scale B-mode signal from inflationary gravitational waves. The experiment will have a 365 mm diameter multi-chroic focal plane filled with 7,588 polarization sensitive antenna-coupled Transition Edge Sensor ...
