Abstract The article contextualises the emergence of the Feral Art School, established in Hull in 2018 by artist‐educators following the winding down of Hull School of Art and Design. This alternative art school is the most recent of many established in the UK since the government’s Independent Review of Higher Education Funding & Student Finance or Browne Review. This article argues that the processes of ‘economisation’ enacted by this review have severely threatened the health of arts education in ...

As a group, lizards occupy a vast array of habitats worldwide, yet there remain relatively few cases where habitat use (ecology), morphology, and thus, performance, are clearly related. The best known examples include: increased limb length in response to increased arboreal perch diameter in anoles and increased limb length in response to increased habitat openness for some skinks. Rocky habitats impose strong natural selection on specific morphological characteristics, which differs from that imposed ...

BackgroundIn resource-limited settings, pneumonia diagnosis and management are based on thresholds for respiratory rate (RR) and oxyhaemoglobin saturation (SpO2) recommended by WHO. However, as RR increases and SpO2 decreases with elevation, these thresholds might not be applicable at all altitudes. We sought to determine upper thresholds for RR and lower thresholds for SpO2 by age and altitude at four sites, with altitudes ranging from sea level to 4348 m.MethodsIn this cross-sectional study, we ...

Studies are reported on a patient with Type II hyperprolinemia. The results indicate that there is a defect in the metabolism of both proline and hydroxyproline in this disorder, and that the prime o-aminobenzaldehyde positive compound in the urine of these patients is Δ1-pyrroline-3-hydroxy-5-carboxylic acid. Deficiencies of either Δ1-pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid dehydrogenase or proline oxidase are compatible with the biochemical phenotype, and direct enzyme assays will be necessary to settle this ...

Oddvar Stokke, Stephen I. Goodman, John A. Thompson, Barbara S. Miles,
Abstract The urine from two siblings with glutaric aciduria has been found to contain abnormally high amounts of β-hydroxyglutaric and glutaconic acids. This strongly suggests that the enzymic block in these patients, which previously has been shown to exist in one of the two steps between glutaryl-CoA and glutaconyl-CoA, is in the decarboxylation of glutaconyl-CoA to crotonyl-CoA. Furthermore, the presence of these two metabolites in urine makes it likely that the postulate of glutaryl-CoA dehydrogenase ...
