The purpose of this study was to determine the silicon source that provides better growth of Cattleya loddigesii orchid plants. Seedlings from seeds germinated in vitro with approximately 1.0 cm in length were inoculated in tubes containing 15 mL of modified Knudson C culture medium, added with sodium silicate (0, 5, 10 and 20 mg L-1) and potassium silicate (0, 5, 10 and 20 mL L-1), in all possible combinations. The culture medium had its pH adjusted to 5.8 ± 0.1 and solidified with 5 g L-1 of agar ...

Phytotechnical characters observed in field experimental are of phenotypic nature and most of the time its assessment is based only on the experience of the observer. The assessment of the correlations between variables allows the estimation of the changes in a character based on the changes in other characters. This present study estimated the impact of agronomic characters related to the weight of the bunch measured in banana plants. The experiment was a test for uniformity, conducted in Guanambi, ...

The silicon can induce beneficial changes in plants, such as the further development of tissues and increased photosynthetic rate. Thus, studies on the anatomical changes resulting from in vitro culture are key to better understanding the development of micropropagated plants. Therefore, this study was undertaken to evaluate the morphological and physiological differences in plants with the use of silicon added to the medium for the in vitro culture of Anthurium adreaenum cv. Rubi. Nodal segments ...

Research on anatomical modifications under in vitro culture is essential to the definition and understanding of the development of micropropagated plants. Likewise, such research is essential to improve the steps of the acclimatization process. Accordingly, the objective of the present study is to verify the differences in the leaves anatomical traits of micropropagated orchids under calcium silicate concentrations. Seedlings of in vitro-germinated seeds, measuring 0.5 cm in length, were inoculated ...

Plant growth-promoting bacteria have been highlighted by their potential for application in plant production, allowing the reduction of the use of fertilizers and pesticides, which is due to the ability to stimulate the growth of plants by nitrogen-fixation and production of phytohormones, such as indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). The objective of this study was to verify the potential of plant growth promotion of 25 wild isolates from the Agricultural Microbiology Culture Collection of the Federal University ...

In function of the green revolution the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals and pesticides in agriculture has been also shown in the production of medicinal plants, resulting in the increase of productivity but with high residual contamination and low rates in the production of secondary metabolites responsible for the biological and pharmacological activity in vegetable drugs. In another hand, new techniques of elicitation has been applied to stimulate the medicinal plants production through the ...

Phosphorus (P) is one of the essential macronutrients for plant growth, being a highly required resource to improve the productive performance of several crops, especially in highly weathered soils. However, a large part of the nutrients applied in the form of fertilizers becomes “inert” in the medium term and cannot be assimilated by plants. Rationalizing the use of phosphorus is a matter of extreme importance for environmental sustainability and socioeconomic development. Therefore, alternatives ...

Botrytis cinerea causes the gray mold disease in a wide range of plant hosts, especially in post-harvest periods. The control of this phytopathogen has been accomplished through the application of fungicides. However, this practice can cause environmental problems and increase fruit production costs. In addition, this fungus species has developed resistance to conventional synthetic fungicides. In this context, plant growth-promoting bacteria have shown potential for application in agricultural ...
