In this work, the photocatalytic activity (PCA) of ZnO–Zn(OH)2 nanosheets (NSs) was enhanced by doping with Co and coupling with ZnS, in various ratios of both. XRD, TEM, HRTEM, EDX, DRS, and BET techniques were applied for characterization of the prepared nanocomposites. The PCA was examined by the photodegradation of Methylene Blue. Irradiation was done by UV instead of visible light, to investigate the charge carriers mobility and migration. The pseudo-first-order kinetics show that PCA of {ZnO– ...

This paper explores the issue of COVID-19 detection from X-ray images. X-ray images, in general, suffer from low quality and low resolution. That is why the detection of different diseases from X-ray images requires sophisticated algorithms. First of all, machine learning (ML) is adopted on the features extracted manually from the X-ray images. Twelve classifiers are compared for this task. Simulation results reveal the superiority of Gaussian process (GP) and random forest (RF) classifiers. To extend ...

Many studies proved the genotoxic effect of cadmium (Cd) exposure and highlighted the importance of the cytogenetic studies as a sensitive and effective means for early detection of Cd-induced mutagenicity. The relationship between occupational exposure to Cd and increased risk of cancer, particularly lung cancer, has been explored in number of epidemiological studies. The aim of this study is to assess the role of chromosomal abnormalities and sister chromatid exchange as sensitive indicators for ...

Background: Ilizarov technique is useful in the management of infected nonunions of the tibia. Its main drawback is the long duration of external fixation (EF) with marked patient discomfort. Several techniques have been described for early removal of EF to avoid this problem. Methods: Between September 2000 and October 2001, a prospective study at a tertiary trauma center was performed. Thirty-three patients with infected nonunion of the tibial shaft were included. The eradication of infection was ...

Treating calcaneal fractures nonoperatively versus operatively is controversial. The aim of open reduction is to reduce the articular surface and to restore the calcaneal bone anatomy to recover its function. The disadvantages of open reduction include wound complications, risk of screw penetration of the articular surface and peroneal tendons, and irritation by the fixation plate. We treated 12 patients with Sanders Type 3 calcaneal fractures with poor skin condition persisting for more than 3 ...
