The hybrid 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-[(5-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)methylthio]quinazolin-4(3H)-one has been synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. The thione–thiol tautomeric equilibria has been studied using both DFT/B3LYP and HF methods at different basis sets. The results of calculations showed predominance of the thione form. A variety of 2-thioxothiazolidin-4-one derivatives were prepared and their in vitro antimicrobial activities were studied. Most of these compounds showed significant antibacterial activity specifically against Gram-positive bacteria, among which compounds 4a,e,g, 5b,e,g,h and 6f exhibit high levels of antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis ATCC 10400 with Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) value of 16 μg/mL. Four new acetylhydrazone derivatives of quinazoline have been synthesized and characterized. The molecular structures and relative stabilities of four possible isomers for each acetylhydrazone are calculated using DFT/B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) method. Abstract To overcome the threat of corrosion and its cost, a new Schiff base was prepared and utilized to synthesize inorganic inhibitors to enhance corrosion resistance and reduce current density.
