Mass gatherings (MGs) are held throughout the world. The aim of this review was to assess and identify the health threats based on the type of the MG, type of diseases, and injuries. Research platforms such as Web of Science, Medline, and Scopus were searched through June 2017. All epidemiologic studies that investigated the health threats during the MGs, such as communicable diseases, injuries, high-risk behaviors, and environmental health problems, were included in this review. Out of 1264 references, ...

Chronic diseases is an important research field because of the growth of the number of affected people around the world. When someone has diabetes, the body either does not make enough insulin or cannot use its own insulin as well as it should. This causes sugar to build up in blood leading to complications like heart disease, stroke, and neuropathy. Poor circulation leading to loss of limbs, blindness, kidney failure, nerve damage, and death. Diagnosis plays vital role in diabetes treatment otherwise ...

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the most common autoimmune thyroid disease that may lead to hypothyroidism due to progressive destruction of the thyroid. The etiology of HT is unclear. However, it is associated with multiple genetic predispositions. Consanguinity has been associated with an increased susceptibility to different inherited conditions. This study investigated the association between consanguinity and risk of HT for the first time.Using a case-control study design, 298 HT patients were ...

Although Jordan has applied lockdown in response to COVID-19 pandemic, many people were not adherent to the quarantine. We aimed to examine the attitudes of the Jordanians and how these attitudes can predict their adherence using the health belief model (HBM). A cross-sectional study of 5057 participants using an internet-based questionnaire was conducted during lockdown. Multivariable ordinal regression analyses were used to estimate predictors of adherence to home quarantine. Overall, 646 (12.8%), ...

Os peroneum and os vesalianum are sesamoid bones that could be found within fibularis longus and brevis tendons, respectively. They are rarely a cause of lateral foot pain and are often identified as incidental radiographic findings. However, in the context of trauma, these sesamoids may be radiographically misinterpreted as fractures. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence and normal morphological variants of os peroneum and os vesalianum.Standard oblique lateral and/or anteroposterior radiographic ...

BRAF mutation has been linked to the development of melanocytic tumors in homogeneous Caucasian cohorts. The role of solar UV radiation (UVR) in BRAF mutation status is poorly understood. We studied the epidemiology of BRAF mutation across a spectrum of melanocytic neoplasms in populations with differing UVR rates. Extended testing for 9 mutation types was attempted on 600 melanocytic neoplasms including banal nevi (n = 225), dysplastic nevi (n = 113), primary (n = 172), and metastatic melanomas (n = 90). Despite the recent progress in the development of anti-cancer drugs, the treatment of metastatic tumors is usually ineffective. The systemic inflammatory response performs key roles in different stages of the carcinogenesis process including metastasis. The high neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were found to be associated with poor survival rates in the majority of solid tumors. However, only a few studies were conducted to further ...

Whey proteins (WPs) are the most widely used protein supplements worldwide. This study investigates the impact of incorporating trehalose into WPs at different ratios ranging from 1% to 5% (w/v) on the structural characteristics, surface properties, and functionality of trehalose (T) conjugated to WPs (T-WP). The T-WP conjugate was produced using the pH-shifting technique. Our findings demonstrated that conjugating trehalose into WPs significantly altered the Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum, ...

The impractical association of a dedicated fiber optic backhauling link with each basestation in future wireless area network (WAN) networks promoted self-backhaulingto become one of the most practical techniques for ultra-dense deployments. Selfbackhauling reduces the number of stations with fiber-optic links, while the remaining stations can communicate with the core network through wireless multi-hopingconnections. Nevertheless, routing through self-backhauling stations is an NP-hardproblem. In ...

Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology facilitates a myriad of applications. In such applications, an efficient reader–tag interrogation process is crucial. Nevertheless, throughout reader–tag communication, significant amounts of time and power are consumed on inescapable simultaneous tag replies (i.e., collisions) due to the lack of carrier sensing at the tags. This paper proposes the modulation cutoff intervals (MCI) process as a novel reader–tag interaction given the lack of carrier sensing ...

Soluble trehalose-conjugated quinoa proteins (T-QPs) were effectively prepared using the pH-shifting mechanism. The structural properties of the T-QPs were evaluated using a comparative evaluation, which included analyzing the amide I, surface charge and hydrophobicity, protein conformation, thermal stability, and protein structures. The results suggested that the development of the T-QPs was influenced mainly by no-covalent bonds. These interactions significantly influenced (P < 0.05) the quinoa proteins' ...
