Adsorption and decomposition of methyl chloride on metal films of Fe, Ni, Pd, Pb, Au and Cu have been investigated in the temperature range 193–570 K. Both molecular and dissociative adsorption of CH3Cl occurred on all films at 193 K. Above 300 K the dissociative chemisorption of CH3Cl on all the films was accompanied by the evolution of CH4, C2H6 and H2 together with some C2H4 on Fe, Ni, Pb and Au. The gaseous products subsequent to CH3Cl adsorption on the oxidized films of Fe, Ni, Pd, Pb and Cu ...

Machine learning (also called data-driven) methods have become popular in modeling flood inundations across river basins. Among data-driven methods, traditional machine learning (ML) approaches are widely used to model flood events, and recently deep learning (DL) approaches have gained more attention across the world. In this paper, we reviewed recently published literature on ML and DL applications for flood modeling for various hydrologic and catchment characteristics. Our extensive literature review ...

This paper presents a methodology for explicit modeling of the time-dependent behavior or creep of structural steel in the Abaqus finite element (FE) models under transient temperature conditions representative of building fires. In this methodology, available creep models based on conventional creep tests under constant or steady-state temperature conditions were used to predict the time-dependent or creep behavior of steel under variable or transient-state temperature conditions. Specifically, ...

This paper is an attempt to unravel new factors that contribute to the success of microfinance institutions “MFIs.” We investigate whether countrywide socioeconomic characteristics and financial access can impact MFIs’ performance. Using data on 222 MFIs we find that countrywide socioeconomic characteristics such as fertility, income and education are important determinants of MFIs’ performance. For example, profitability of MFIs is more likely to fall and default on loans is more likely to rise ...

Intraoperative vascular injuries in the cervical spine are rare, but carry significant morbidity and mortality when they do occur. There is a need to better characterize the risk of vertebral artery injury (VAI) after posterior C1-C2 fusion. The aim of this study was to investigate the rate of VAI in patients undergoing posterior C1-C2 cervical fusion. An electronic database search was performed to identify studies that reported rates of VAI following posterior cervical fusion at C1-C2 level. Patient- ...

In this paper, we introduce a new class of planar arrays that we call the Bessel planar arrays. A formula for the current distribution in the elements of these arrays is presented, which is related to Bessel functions. For the Bessel planar arrays, the maximal sidelobe level is controllable, the directivity is very high, and the half‐power beam width is slightly larger compared to the optimal Chebyshev planar arrays. Methods to set the maximal sidelobe level and compute the directivity and the half‐ ...
